Background

Leeds New Muslim Project is a UK based charity organisation that was first established in the 1990s and have been providing new converts with educational and social support ever since.

Emulating the best of generations

When someone converts to Islam, this is can be huge change for the individual involved. This can impact relationship with their family and friends.  In some circumstances, they can become homeless.  There are parallels with those companions who migrated from Makkah to Madinah, they left behind their homes and families for the sakes of Allah.  When they arrived in Madinah, they were received with love and care by the Ansar (The Helpers) - Leeds New Muslim Project have aimed to be of help and benefit for converts in Leeds.  Over the many years this work has been taking place, we have welcomed and witnessed countless numbers of new brothers and sisters take shahadah and enter into Islam.

What we offer?

• We meet-up with anyone is who considering becoming Muslim - this usually takes place over a cup of tea/coffee in a Café - we offer everyone advice, free books and a guided visit to a mosque to help them understand what being a Muslim involves
• When a person is ready, we witness their shahadah and offer a shahadah certificate where required
• Once a person has taken shahadah, we give them a gift pack (Qur'an, prayer mat and various books)
• We teach the basics of purification and prayer - this is offered on a group and individual basis
• We organise monthly social and educational events, so that new converts (or old) can make friends and engage with the Muslim community
• In Ramadan we organise iftars, as well as an Eid Party for both Eid ul-Adha and Eid ul-Fitr

All our services are FREE and are undertaken on a voluntary basis.

How will we use the monies we receive?

This will help towards the costs of:

• Shahadah packs - Qu'rans, various books, prayer mats, hijabs, prayer caps etc - this is typically around £50/pack
• Monthly social and educational events - to cover cost of venue hire, catering/refreshment, guest speakers
• Eid parties

• 23rd April 23 - Eid ul-Fitr Party
• 10th June 23 - Dhul-Hijjah reminder
• 2nd July 23 - Eid ul-Adha Party
• 9th Sept 23 - Reminder about the Prophet Muhammad
• 14th October 23 - Social gathering with food
• 11th November 23 - Reminder about the Female Companions
• 9th December 23 - Social gathering with food
• 13th January 24 - Reminder about the Female Companions
• 25th February 24 - Reminder about Ramadan/how to fast

We have the following events planned

• 16th March - Iftar (meal to break the fast)
• 23rd March - Iftar (meal to break the fast)
• 14th April - Eid ul-Fitr party
• 1st June - Dhul Hijjah reminder
• 23rd June - Eid ul-Adha party
