About Dar al Quran:

Established in 2015, we have been dedicated to fostering a strong Muslim identity within the unique context of New Zealand. We believe in building more than just structures; we're constructing a foundation for our community's future. The Hillsborough Masjid stands as a testament to our commitment to providing a nurturing environment for Islamic education, community connection, and spiritual growth.

The Need for the Hillsborough Masjid:

In 2021, Lote Tree faced the challenge of eviction from our humble premises, which had served as our home for six years. However, through resilience and the grace of Allah, we have acquired a new property that boasts breathtaking views of the Manukau Harbour. This new masjid will serve as a sanctuary for Muslims in the Lynfield and Hillsborough areas. While the Muslim community in this area is substantial, we currently don’t have a masjid in the area. The Hillsborough Masjid will fill a crucial gap in our community's infrastructure.

Unlike in wealthier Muslim communities, funding opportunities for projects like ours in New Zealand are limited. We rely heavily on community fundraising campaigns to realize our goals. Our Projects

Lote Tree Trust runs the following programmes: 

• Dar al Quran: Educating the next generation of New Zealand-Muslims about their deen through after-school and weekend programmes 
• New Zealand Zakat Foundation: Mobilizing Zakat to strengthen our community's welfare and future.
• The Halal Expo: Showcasing and supporting businesses catering to the Muslim consumer market.
• The New Zealand Muslim Leadership Collective: Empowering community workers through professional development.
• Dar al Quran Publishing: Translating and publishing classic Islamic texts for English-speaking audiences.

What we do 

At Lote Tree, our umbrella organisation, we believe that the Shariah offers the best solutions to the challenges we face as a community today. All of our programmes and initiatives are aimed at providing solutions for the individuals and families from Shariah and creating a holistic environment where we learn, develop, and give back to our community.

What the Hillsborough Masjid Will Offer:

Our new masjid will be more than just a place of worship. It will feature various facilities to cater to the diverse needs of our community:

• Office Spaces: Affordable office spaces will be available for lease by community organizations and social support providers, ensuring access to critical social services.
• Counselling Room: A culturally appropriate space for counselling and family mediation services, addressing the mental health concerns facing our community.
• Commercial Kitchen: A strictly halal kitchen available for hire by small businesses and catering services, promoting economic empowerment and entrepreneurship within the community.

Operational and Financial Sustainability:

Ensuring the long-term sustainability of Lote Tree and the Hillsborough Masjid is our commitment. Through diversified revenue streams, including tenanted spaces, multipurpose halls, and commercial kitchens, we aim to cover operational costs and provide essential community services.
