Malaysian Association for Blind Muslims (Persatuan Orang-orang cacat penglihatan Islam Malaysia, PERTIS) is a Malaysian-based registered NGO (registration number: PPM-008-14-26041996) established in the year 1996. Our organisation main focus is to help those who are in need of financial support, improvement in their education and enhancement in their everyday life. Our main targets are the disabled in general and the visually impaired (blind) especially those who are Muslims that consist of various age. 

This campaign was created with the intention of purchasing a building so that our organisation can help blind Muslims in Malaysia build a better life. Today, there are roughly 50 000 blind people registered in Malaysia Department of Social Welfare and majority of them are Muslims who are currently having difficulty in their education and social life. To eradicate this problem, our organisation called Malaysian Association of Blind Muslims was established with the sole purpose of helping those blind Muslims maintain a healthy and educated lifestyle.

Countless steps and measures have been carried out by our organisation in order to help blind Muslims enhance their lifestyle. Some of those measurements are successful and some failed. This is because of our problem regarding the absence of suitable place and location that limit our capabilities to organise programs as well as manufacturing products that can help the blind Muslims community. Therefore, acquiring a building with big space is a priority to us so that we can further enhance our organisation capabilities and eventually help the blind Muslims community.

One of the life enhancement step conducted by our organisation is organising various programs that related to Islamic lifestyle. Such programs are Al-Qur’an braille class, Fardhu Ain class, and Fiqh Ibadat and Tauhid guidance class. These programs can make an improvement in their everyday life by educating them the proper way of living an honest Muslim life. All of those programs require a suitable location with a big space and fully equipped sound system. Acquiring the location with those preferences is difficult to us due to the high rent cost and unavailability of the location. This predicament has forced us to postpone and sometimes cancel our programs. If our organisation can obtain a building, surely we can conduct our programs easily without any major problems and eventually making a positive impact on the blind Muslims community lifestyle.

Besides managing Islamic programs, our organisation also produce various braille books for blind Muslims. The braille books were manufactured usually are braille Al-Qur’an and topics that focused on the Islamic history and lifestyle. These books are often used by blind Muslims community in order to enhance their education and knowledge regarding Islamic teachings. Currently, our braille books are produced in a small 20x70 ft² workspace in Brickfields, Malaysia. The small workspace has slowed our production process and reduced our annual revenue making it a major setback for our organisation. With the presence of a new building, suitable rooms with a big spaces can be used as an editing and manufacturing room for braille books. This will eventually improve our production rate and ultimately increase our annual revenue. Not only that, the high rate of braille book production can also benefit the blind Muslims community because our organisation sometimes donate our braille book to them so we can ensure that their education is adequate.

In addition to organising programs and manufacturing braille books, our organisation also require a suitable workspace for our operation. Currently, our organisation is operated in two small workspaces located in Gombak (Administrative) and Brickfields (Publication), Malaysia. Both workspaces are quite undersized when compare to other organisation and it has prevented us from reaching our full potential for a long time. Because of that, our organisation require a suitable building so that proper workspace with big open spaces can be used for our operation. If this happen, surely our organization can reach its full potential and eventually accomplishment our main goal that is ensuring a proper, educated and meaningful life for every blind Muslim in Malaysia. Therefore, this campaign is important not only to our organisation but to the blind Muslims community as well as it can help us provide sustainability to their everyday life and ultimately improve their lifestyle.
