Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raj’ioun. I am deeply sadden to share of the untimely passing of Br. Abdul Rauf. He was fatally shot in a car jacking/robbery last week. He was the owner of the very popular Chutney restaurant and was driving for Lyft at the time of his death. He had been found on the street shot multiple times and was transported to a hospital where he passed away. The alleged suspect has since been caught and we are praying Abdul Rauf and his family get the justice they deserve.
I, Agah Ali, a close friend to the family, have started this campaign so our community can show support and solidarity with Abdul Rauf's family. May Allah make it easy on them during this difficult time.

Everyone who knew Abdul Rauf knew immediately that he was a man of the people. He was someone everyone could depend on and look towards for support. When he was in the hospital during this initial heart wrenching hours I personally received least around 200 calls or 300 calls. People were asking me, ‘When is the funeral? We want to come,’ because people knew this guy. He was such a genuine man.
In fact in 2017 he was hailed as a hero and received an award for bravery for intervening when an Alexandria police officer was being attacked. He jumped in and he saved that police officer’s life because that is the type of man he was.
"Our hearts are with Mr. Khan's loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we're in touch with Mr.Khan's family to offer our support. We will continue to assist law enforcement in any way we can, and will continue our efforts to combat this senseless violence and help keep drivers safe," LYFT statement
Br. Abdul Rauf came to the U.S. from Pakistan in search of a better life. He lived in Fairfax County with his wife and 16-year-old daughter. The DMV community and myself wanted to come together to offer some support and solace to the family during this incredibly difficult time. While this campaign will not bring Br. Abdul Rauf back to us we hope it will bring some ease to his family, allow them to focus entirely on each other as they grieve, and show that community is here for them
