Sharing Islam to Japanese non-Muslims all over Japan!

This is a proposal from Hajj Kyoichiro Sugimoto, a Japanese Muslim revert. The current Muslim population in Japan is about 0.18%. The population of Japan today is approximately 124 million, of which about 230,000 are Muslims and only 10% of them is local Japanese Muslims. Many Japanese non-Muslims are unaware of the true message of Islam, and it is mandatory for Muslims to convey and invite them to the true message of Islam. The Quran says, “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best.” (16:125) However, there are several hurdles. In general, the Japanese are not interested in religion. Also, Islam has an image of danger and terrorism. Moreover, there are few opportunities to learn about Islam in Japanese language and to interact directly with Muslims. Many masjids do not plan dawah programs for Japanese non-Muslims. That is why I have developed a method and event that allows the Japanese non-Muslims to get to know Islam in a casual and natural way. This is called “My Muslim Neighbors” invitation program. It provides opportunities for the Japanese non-Muslims to meet and talk with foreign intelligent Muslims who can speak Japanese face to face. My role is as a 'magnet' to bridge the gap between Japanese non-Muslims and Islam, the Qur’an and Muslims. Through simple and clear introduction of Islam and direct human interaction with the Muslims from different countries, the non-Muslims can easily remove negative image of Islam in a short time. In fact, most of the Japanese new Muslims embraced Islam through direct interaction with foreign Muslims. Alhamdulillah. For the first year, I make a proposal of 11 different locations around Japan with the budget below.

Budget USD 7,000

80 copies of Japanese translation of the Quran: USD1,500

Travel costs for the lecturer to visit 11 different locations around Japan: USD2,000 (Hokkaido, Sendai, Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama, Yokohama, Tsukuba, Niigata, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka)

Accommodation costs for the lecturer to visit 6 different locations around Japan: USD1,000 (Hokkaido, Sendai, Niigata, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka)

Event meal costs for 330 event participants: USD2,500 (Hokkaido, Sendai, Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama, Yokohama, Tsukuba, Niigata, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka)

First Dawah event in Kochi, Japan

Assalaam alaikum wrwb!

Alhamdulillah. Chiba Islamic Cultural Center had a multicultural program: Indonesian Cultural Exchange Meeting in collaboration with the Kochi Muslim Family, which was recently established in Kochi City this year. Approximately 50 Japanese and Indonesian Muslims participated in the event at the Kochi Prefectural Cultural Hall. There were also participants from Kochi University (6 people), University of Kochi (1 person), and Kochi University of Technology (2 people). At the beginning, after reciting the Qur'an, Mr. Eko, chairman of the Kochi Muslim Family Association, gave an opening address, and Ms. Mayumi introduced the country of Indonesia. Afterwards, there was a corner where participants tried on traditional Indonesian costumes and Muslim long robes, where participants tried on hijabs, and everyone enjoyed the cultural experience. At the end, the chairman of CICC gave a lecture titled What is Islam? At the end of the session, we received the following comments from the participants: “I was able to listen to the explanations in an easy-to-understand manner. I think my image of Islam has improved. I want to know more about Islam.” “When I was working as a caregiver, I met Indonesian and became friends with them. As I went out to play and had meals together on my days off, I started to feel closer to Indonesia and Islam and want to know more about them. Today's exchange meeting was also taught by the Indonesian, and I was able to learn about them and wanted to study more and deepen my knowledge.” 3 Japanese non-Muslims will learn Islam more through one to one online sessions soon later in sha Allah. Let us dua for Allah's guidance please.

Dawah event report of Japan

Alhamdulillah. On Saturday 2nd September 2023, a total of 23 people, 10 Indonesians living in Numata City and 13 local Japanese people, gathered together to hold the first Multicultural Coexistence Program: Indonesian Cultural Exchange in Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture. After reciting the Qur'an, Sis Susanti lives in Numata City introduced Indonesian culture. Japanese people were actively trying on Indonesian traditional costumes. Then, we had a lunch together and deepened our relationship, and gave a lecture in Japanese language on the fundamentals of Islam in an easy-to-understand manner. The questionnaire summary report (Japanese participants) collected after the program is as follows.

What I learned from participating?

-I was happy to meet Indonesian people who actually live in Tone Numata and learn about Indonesia. Everyone was friendly and very likable.

-I was able to learn more about Islam. It was interesting.

-I learned a lot about Islam.

Opinions/impressions

-Thank you very much. The lecture was very easy to understand, even for someone like me who is new to Islam, and I was also interested in Allah and Muhammad. In addition, in the end, I was able to not only learn about the basics of Islam, but also learn about modern issues based on Islamic logic, which deepened my learning. I myself am a Buddhist, but I am interested in religion in general, so I would like to continue studying!

-There were many Indonesian people at the venue, and I had the opportunity to talk to them directly and learn about their culture, such as traditional costumes. It felt good. I hope that such a warm place will spread, where people can naturally talk and get to know each other, even if they are from different countries and cultures.

-I wanted to know more about Allah's teachings and Islam. However, I also felt that people were pointing out comparisons to Japan. I also think that I am sticking to my existing values. I wish I could study it a little more objectively. I want to study at my own pace.

-The lunch was delicious.

-it was fun. I want to participate again.

Dawah event at Yokohama lead to Shahadah!

Assalaam alaikum wrwb.

We had a multicultural dawah program: Indonesian Cultural Exchange Meeting in Yokohama City. About 30 Japanese and foreign Muslims participated in the meeting. the chairman of CICC gave a lecture entitled "What is Islam?" Familiar questions such as "Why are drinking and eating pork prohibited?", "What should we be careful about when interacting with Muslims?" After that, at the traditional Indonesian costume and Muslim long robe experience corner, participants tried on hijabs and long robes, and everyone enjoyed the cultural experience. Finally, we received the following comment from the participant. "So far, I have asked many people questions about Islam, listened to their stories, and read books, but Mr. Sugimoto's story made the most sense to me. If there is another event, I would like to participate." I exchanged contact number with her and after 1 week we had an online session and yesterday she made shahadah and embraced Islam. Alhamdulillah. May Allah guide us to the right path.

1st Dawah event in Higashi Nagoya Islamic Center

To Respected donors

Bismillah, Alhamdulillah.

In the heat of summer, about 30 participants gathered for a Dawah event at the Higashi-Nagoya Islamic Center, 400 km away from Tokyo. Seven of them were Japanese non-Muslims, and they were from diverse backgrounds: Nagoya University, Nanzan University, Nagoya University of Foreign Studies, and young entrepreneurs. During the lecture, I conveyed Islam from the basics, and the students and others asked many questions. One of the participants said Mr. Sugimoto's talk also gave me a clear picture in my mind of the basics of Islam, which I did not know properly. I understand the absolute difference from polytheism, but there are still similarities with the Buddhist worldview in my mind." Next week I will have another Dawah event in Yokohama, In sha Allah! For more details, please visit our website: http://www.cicc-japan.com/

Expenses:

Transportation: USD165 (Chiba-Nagoya-Chiba)

1st Dawah event at Hachioji, Tokyo

Aaasalaam alaikum! Alhamdulillah.

This is another update for this month. About 30 Japanese and foreign Muslims participated in the “My Muslim Neighborhood Invitation “Program held on 8th July 2023 at the Daimachi Community Center in Hachioji City, Tokyo. The participants enjoyed cultural learning about Malaysian greetings, halal food, ethnicity, religion, dress, currency, and other things that surround them in their daily lives. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed Malaysian cuisine. After the Zuhr prayer and Hajj Kyoichiro Sugimoto gave a lecture on "What is Islam? The following comments were received from the participant student from Keio University. “I was very interested in today's event and had a great time participating in it. I didn't know much about Malaysia, but I could feel closer to the country by learning from actual Malaysian people. The food was also very delicious. Also, the lecture by Mr. Sugimoto gave me an opportunity to ask myself what Islam is all about. For example, I usually say "Islam" without thinking, but I did not know that the word "Islam" means obedience to Allah. In Japan, people often focus on the strictness of Islam, but I realized once again that for Muslims, there is no other god but Allah, and the most important point is to do good and go to heaven as the purpose of life. I felt the importance of learning about actual Islam from multiple perspectives, which I could not see in Islam from the mass media. It was also impressive that there were converted Muslims at the event, and I would like to hear more about them personally if I have the chance. I learned a lot from this event. I would like to use it as a reference for my own activities. Thank you very much for this valuable opportunity today."

I will keep updating every dawah activity in sha Allah.

Sunday 3rd June 2023An exchange meeting between Japanese students and Muslims was held at the Religious Corporation An-nur Mosque Niigata near Niigata University (the representative of the mosque is Mr. Hisham Wakabayashi, a Japanese Muslim).
