"The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that sprouts seven ears; in every ear, there are a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [the reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing and All-Knowing." (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:261)

Dear Siblings in Islam,

Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah (SWT) and through your unwavering support, the Urbana Muslim Association (UMA) has successfully acquired a 2.8-acre lot at the corner of highways 75 and 80 in Urbana, Maryland. We are now in Phase II of our project, which focuses on land development and infrastructure preparation for construction. This is a crucial phase that will lay the foundation for our masjid and community center, ensuring it becomes a place of worship, service, and growth for generations to come.

Project Phases & Progress

Phase I (Completed)

Land purchased and site plan approved by the Frederick County Planning Commission in September 2023.

Phase II (Currently in Progress)

Land development plan completed and ready for submission to Frederick County in early May 2025.

This phase includes all lot development activities, such as grading, stormwater retention and management, access road construction, parking lot preparation, retaining wall installation, building foundation, and all necessary utility work.

Engineering design work for Phase III is also underway.

Phase III (Future)

Construction of the masjid building and interior build-out.

Urgent Need for Support

We are currently $140,000 short of the estimated cost to complete Phase II. Based on our most recent fundraising efforts in Ramadan, we are seeking an initial target of $100,000 to accelerate progress. Every contribution brings us closer to ensuring the infrastructure is fully prepared for construction. Building a masjid is among the most beloved acts in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “Whoever builds a masjid for the sake of Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.” (Sahih Muslim)

Community Impact & Outreach

Beyond constructing a house of worship, we are committed to serving the greater Urbana and Frederick community through various initiatives, including:

Muslim Community Services:

• Hosting daily congregational prayers to serve as a spiritual refuge for all community members.
• Providing Jumma (Friday) congregational prayers, offering a space for worship, reflection, and khutbahs on relevant community issues.
• Organizing regular halaqas (Islamic study circles) and Taleem sessions for men, women, and youth to foster continuous learning and spiritual growth.
• Administering Zakat and Sadaqa distribution, ensuring financial aid reaches those most in need within our local Muslim community.
• Conducting Ramadan programs, including community iftars, Taraweeh prayers, and special religious lectures to maximize blessings during the holy month of Ramadan.
• Facilitating youth mentorship programs, educational classes, and activities to empower the next generation with Islamic values and leadership skills.

Social Work:

• Providing meals and support for those in need through partnerships with the Urbana Food Bank and local soup kitchens.
• Assisting individuals and families affected by natural and man-made calamities.
• Supporting frontline workers, including nurses and emergency responders, as we did during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing meals, masks, and essential supplies.

• Building bridges with other faith-based organizations in Frederick County.
• Hosting events to promote understanding and collaboration.
• Engaging youth in interfaith and cultural exchanges.

Civic Engagement:

• Strengthening relationships with schools, libraries, hospitals, and first responders.
• Encouraging civic participation through voter registration drives and community discussions.
• Supporting local efforts that promote social justice, equity, and welfare.
