Frequently Asked Questions

Can you give your Qurbani online?

According to the Global Islamic Aid Council ruling in Saudi Arabia it is permissible to offer the Qurbani outside of one’s own country to give to Muslims who are in greater need and are poorer.

How can I trust my Qurbani donation gets carried out?

Campaigns offering Qurbani are all vetted by LaunchGood’s due diligence team and have to meet a certain standard before they are allowed to fundraise on our platform.

What are the differences in giving Qurbani online versus in person?

Please note that you do not have to give Qurbani once; you can make multiple Qurbani donations for yourself, your family, or family members who have passed away.

This allows you to pursue one Qurbani in person and offer additional online Qurbani to Muslims in more needy countries.

The main difference between an in-person Qurbani is that it allows you to keep 1/3 of the meat for yourself and to give 1/3 of the meat as gifts to your friends, relatives, and neighbors, with just 1/3 having to go to the needy.

What are the rules around online Qurbani donations?

Online Qurbani donations follow the same rules as if a Qurbani were in person.

Condition of the animal: The animal needs to pass the minimum age, which is six months for a lamb, one year for a goat, two years for a cow, and five years for a camel.

It must be free of defects to a certain degree, either from birth defects on injuries, and it should be sacrificed right after the Eid prayer till the end of 13th day of Dhul Hijjah.

Condition on the sacrificer: You are not allowed to cut/shave your hair and cut your nails from the beginning of Dhul Hijjah if you intend to make a Qurbani, regardless if it is online.

Are there criteria to whom Qurbani can go towards?

Unlike Zakat, no strict criteria need adherence in choosing people to receive your Qurbani. As such, we encourage you to pick causes and regions that are dear to your heart in choosing Qurbani campaigns.

How do I find more Qurbani campaigns?

This Qurbani page offers a list of campaigns across various geographies and categories to offer your Qurbani.

More Qurbani campaigns can be found at launchgood.com/discover; once on the page, please search “Qurbani” or “Udhiya” to create a filtered list of campaigns to choose from.
