The UK's first Zakat Service Centre...

Imagine a place where every Muslim in need can be supported; where every hungry family, every destitute asylum seeker, every single mother struggling to make ends meet, can find help from within their own faith community. 

This project is a major leap forward towards achieving this outcome!

National Zakat Foundation is a national, unifying and community organisation. This is your chance to support our campaign for the UK's first ever Zakat Service Centre in the heart of London. The Centre will function as a one-stop shop, providing services for both Zakat payers and recipients, reviving a forgotten pillar for the UK Muslim community and honouring the Prophetic tradition of local collection and distribution of Zakat. 

The demand for the services that we will be providing in the Centre is very real. Millions of pounds of Zakat remain unpaid every year owing to a lack of awareness and understanding of this pillar. Moreover, it is now without doubt that there are thousands of eligible recipients in the UK who have a right to be supported.

What does a Zakat Service Centre do? 

Until now, the vast majority of our service delivery for both Zakat payers and recipients has been remote. The transition to a customer facing ‘high-street’ manifestation will now allow for an extension of our services to cater for drop-ins, consultations, training and workshops. 

Our model for a Zakat Service Centre is one where Zakat payers would experience Zakat education, calculation and collection rather like they might experience banking services at their local branch, and that recipients would experience Zakat distribution as they might experience a CAB clinic or Job Centre. 

In addition, this opportunity is particularly exciting owing to the prominent position that the building enjoys. Allah Almighty mentions the pillar of Zakat alongside Salat almost 30 times in the Qur'an and by upholding the two pillars together with the Zakat Service Centre and East London Mosque side by side, we will be able to deliver services that bring immeasurable value to the community. 

So how much will all this cost? 

The total cost in 2016, including full renovation of the three storey building as well as rent and all other operational costs, will be £150,000.

East London Mosque is contributing £25,000 with additional commitments of £50,000 already secured. 

This leaves £75,000 in Sadaqah to be raised from good people like you. 

It is hoped that all the works will be completed by September 2016 insha'Allah.

Not just another charity

We're not just another charity, but an institution fulfilling a critical and communal obligation for the UK Muslim community. Our aim is for ALL Zakat to be paid, year in year out, and for every eligible recipient of Zakat to be given the support they deserve. Since its inception in 2011, NZF has handled over 3,500 applications for hardship grants from individuals and families in the UK suffering from various forms of destitution; distributed over £3.6m of Zakat funds to those who need it most on our doorstep; established four supported housing projects for homeless women (London, Birmingham and Manchester) and prison leavers (London only). But there is still so much more to do.
