To create diversity in Muslim literature and encourage Islamic stories

Global Muslim Writers

Assalaam 'alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh.

I started this campaign to raise money to fund my newly founded publishing site for the purpose of creating monthly writing competitions for young Muslims.
One of my goals is to bring out the diversity of the ummah through short stories and poetry from Muslims all around the world. It has been one of my biggest dreams because I believe that despite the ummah being diverse, it isn't reflected in the stories that we read through books or even sometimes in real life. There's a huge lack of knowledge of Muslims in many parts of the world and I would like to build bridges.

A little about me:

I'm Umm Sumayyah, mother of two, home educator, aspiring curriculum developer, and a blogger at IhsaanHomeAcademy.com. On my blog, I mainly share free homeschooling resources that I find through my research, and also make free and premium educational printables for other home educators.

Why make monthly writing competitions:

I share more details on how the whole contest works on Global Muslim Writers. But to shortly put, I believe that by encouraging young Muslims to write stories from their cultures, countries, write inspirational poems, and
have a platform where they could share their stories and read other
stories, I believe that it will create a better bond of brotherhood/sisterhood in shaa Allah. Making it monthly will make them look forward to writing in an exciting way. The stories don't necessarily have to be about origins or life as a Muslim in different countries. They could be about anything interesting. I shared a list of examples on the 'How it Works' tab. There are three age groups of people who can submit their short stories or poetry: 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, and 17-30.

Goals:

  • To show the diversity of the Muslim ummah and encourage diversity in writing/reading
  • To encourage young Muslims to write Islam-focused stories
  • To help better young Muslims' writing skills
  • To encourage Islamic literature
  • To encourage young Muslims to be active in their communities locally and globally
  • To create a place where young Muslims could publish their stories and read other free beneficial stories
  • To allow young Muslims to gain recognition for their talents
  • To create a platform where Muslims could learn about the everyday life of their brothers and sisters from various parts of the world
  • To hopefully create a connection and love for each other; in shaa Allah
  • To get closer to Allah in shaa Allah

_The fund will be used towards prizes, paying for editors, illustrators, and sometimes writers in shaa Allah.
