Empowering Women of Yemen

Power of Women's humanitarian focus this year is empowering the women of Yemen during this crisis.  
Our goal is to raise effective funds to support Yemen Our Home in accelerating the recovery and reconstruction of the country by improving living conditions to some of the most vulnerable populations in the area. By highlighting the plight of mothers and children, we seek to aid the very backbone of the community and give a fighting chance to our future generation.

Proceeds of the campaign

All proceeds will be donated to Yemen Our Home, a UN-funded organization. This project will impact 350 midwives, their families, and their pregnancy and childbirth patients. Only 67% of the Rural Midwives Project's costs have been raised. With your support, we can raise the $18,000 needed to begin implementing the project. 

Statistics of childbirth and aftercare in Yemen

"In Yemen, nearly 8 out of 10 babies die at birth or prematurely and 7 out of 10 mothers face severe pregnancy complications. The midwifery clinics cannot effectively provide safe healthcare to pregnant and lactating mothers as they lack equipment, medicine, and emergency facilities. Midwives often cannot reach out to women in need if there are located in the remote villages, in particular during emergencies. They require birth kits and equipment to offer adequate maternal and birth care.

Project aim and goals 

This project aims to improve and increase access to basic maternal and newborn health care services in Maqbnah, Taizz. In addition, it will: 

• Rehabilitate a midwifery clinic
• Provide clinical equipment, medicine, emergency facilities
• fund an ambulance
• Pay for the purchase of hygienic birth kits and equipment for 50 rural midwives
• Provide midwifery technical training to the rural midwives on newborn and lifesaving skills. 

This initiative will provide an opportunity for employed midwives to market their skills into an income generating activity.
