Alleviate winter suffering for displaced Syrians, medical centers and hospitals in northern Syria

Syrian displaced people and medical centers in northern Syria need urgent help at this winter, Contribute with us to help more than 1000 displaced families and 9 medical centers and to provide them with winter materials and heating fuel

Thousands of families in northern Syria live in plastic tents that don’t protect them from the cold of winter, including children who are more vulnerable to diseases due to moisture and lack of heating. In addition to deteriorating living conditions and poor family income, winter has become one of these families biggest concerns, after they lost their homes and loved ones and moved to live in Camps.

Since we, at the Syrian Expatriates Medical Association (SEMA) aim to  ensure continued access to medical services in densely populated areas of the poor and displaced, we appeal to you to provide the necessary support in order to be able to purchase and distribute heating fuel and other supplies for IDPs in border camps, medical centers and hospitals in northern Syria. We hope that your generosity will provide warmth for these families and help them face the cold of winter, in addition to helping our centers and hospitals continue to work and create a warm environment for the patients there.

Objective of the project:

Alleviating suffering during winter, through the distribution of heating fuel and other supplies to medical centers and facilities, and to the IDPs in the camps of northern Syria.

Beneficiaries:

1000 displaced families, primary health care centers and 5 hospitals.

The campaign is considered part of the relief response to the needs of IDPs and forcibly displaced persons in camps and healthcare facilities in northern Syria. It fully complies with the principles of humanitarian action in terms of selecting the target area, and the quality of the most vulnerable beneficiaries (infants and elderly persons) in the community, in light of the lack of donor support, and the failure to support shelters and non-food items which make families in the camps vulnerable to the cold winter, and reduce the heating services provided by hospitals and medical centers for inpatients and patients.

Allah Almighty said: ‘And whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward’.

Please contribute and help us protect them from the cold and harsh winter and alleviate their suffering …

The humanitarian catastrophe in north of Syria is rapidly exacerbating with the decreasing temperature.

There is an increase in number of displaced people who escaped the military operations and death heading northwards to the Syrian-Turkish borders in the far north of Syria. Total number of Syrian displaced people since 16th of January so far has exceeded 70,000 households, around 420,000 individuals, mostly from children and women. They are living in tents and shelters that are inappropriate for human habitation. The decreasing temperature has aggravated their suffering, as it reached in some locations to minus 2 degrees Celsius.

Ahmad Yaseen, a 3-year-old child, passed away last week in "Al Qatari" camp in Azaz city, in northern rural Aleppo, because of the severe frost wave that swept the area. The child had terrible diarrhea and vomiting, according to Ahmad's father.

Most of northern Syria camps, dwelled by displaced people of different parts of Syria, are suffering from lack of health and humanitarian services, and they are not prepared to endure the severe weather conditions and stand against heat and cold.

Snapshots of the SEMA lens of the suffering of the displaced Syrians from the harsh winter

Snapshots of the SEMA lens that show the Syrians suffering from the harshness of winter in displacement camps in the Syrian north, and what is added to the crisis is the current displacement of more than 200 thousand Syrians from the city of Ma`rat al-Numan and its countryside in Idlib south to the northern Syrian camps due to the barbaric military campaign, in light of the limited winter supplies, heating materials and medical and nutritional needs.

One of our rapid response teams this morning

Few snapshots from one of our rapid response teams this morning. No words describe the happiness of these people with such small contribution. It is the beauty of giving!

SEMA teams continue to look for the displaced people wherever they go and provide them with medical, psychological, nutritional and social support. They delivered healthcare services and distributed medications, fuel, and food.

Part of SEMA's response yesterday to the displaced in northwestern Syria

According to the most recent statistic, since November 1st, 2019, there are 359,417 persons displaced from the south and east Idlib in northwestern Syria. The majority are living in tents and having a huge lack of food, medicine, clothes, warming materials, and other basic resources for living.

Therefore, in respond to this crisis, SEMA established more than 40 rapid response teams, 2 mobile clinics on top of the excising 5, increased the capacity of all hospitals and healthcare centers running by SEMA, and assigned ambulances to transport sick people.

Just yesterday 12/1/2019, we reached 216 families in 3 major camps and provided them with fuel for warming, food, and clothes. Our medical, nutritional, psychological, and social team continues to work tirelessly every day. Check out a few pictures from today.

We sincerely thank everyone donated to our programs and continue to stand with us. We are so grateful to our heroes on the ground who are working to spread hope and love.

New snapshots of the harshness of winter and the suffering of new IDPs from conflict areas in northern Syria, after the displacement of at least 200,000 during the past month from the city of Maarat al-Numan and its countryside to the camps of northern Syria as a result of the barbaric military campaign, in light of the limited winter supplies, heating materials and medical and food needs.
