6th January 2020 Update: We have now increased the target to $18,000. Over $15,000 has been raised in the last 24 hours. Praise be to god. Over the next 24 hours, the delivery partners will be conferencing to understand the situation. As rain falls across some areas, officials state that the fire will increase in its fury from this Thursday. Families are still evacuating areas and air pollution has made it tough for elderly and young children.

Muslims United for Australia

Muslims have come together to support our brothers and sisters in need who are affected by the Australian bush fires. Fires have destroyed homes, wildlife and will have a long term impact on the lives of thousands. As Muslims, it is our duty to support those in need and our neighbours in Australia need us now more than ever. Collectively, we’re responding now when they need us the most.

The Largest Bushfires in the past decade 

More than 150 fires continue to burn across New South Wales, Australia. Authorities had issued emergency alerts for 10 of those bushfires, down from 13 earlier in the evening. Of most concern are fires burning on the NSW South Coast, including near Nowra and Eden. Out-of-control fires were also causing significant concerns in the Snowy Mountains and the Southern Highlands. Early reports suggest the loss of homes in the Snowies. Properties are also currently under threat in the Southern Highlands and on the South Coast.

Fund Delivery Plan

This collective is committed to working with partners on the ground through needs assessments to administer funds where needed most. Local delivery partners include Merciful Group, Islamic Relief Australia and Pennyappeal Australia. All fundraising proceeds will help with immediate, short-term needs of those affected. Delivery partners are working with inter agencies to respond where funds are needed most. The initial goal is set to $10,000 and will increase as funds are raised. Though this is a Muslim-led campaign, we welcome our friends of other faiths to also contribute. Funds will be distributed by PennyAppeal Australia, Islamic Relief Australia and Merciful Group.

Updates will be added to this campaign as thorough needs assessments are made by the three delivery partners. Delivery partners are already working with mainstream inter agencies. Funds *may* be used to support the New South Wales Fire Brigade, emergency food and water allocation and needs, equipment needed by local authorities, displacement aid for families affected, emergency wildlife conservation etc. The exact needs will be agreed and communicated on this campaign page over the course of the next few days.
