The Timaru Muslim Educational Trust (TMET) is a non-profit charitable organisation with registration number 2732832 under NZ Charitable Trusts Act 1957 with Registrar of Incorporated Societies New Zealand.

In March 2019, TMET has entered into contract to purchase a building in Parkside, Timaru with a cost of NZD $425,000 which has to be raise by 1st November 2019 (settlement date).

This will InsyaAllah be our first Masjid in Timaru, New Zealand.

The donation raised will significantly help to pay for the building, renovations (which is much needed to make it suitable as a place for prayer), to buy materials such as prayer mats, Holy Book of Quran and a few resources for community to use it as a reference in order to teach about Islam to the community.

Timaru District is at a distance of two hours drive from Christchurch. It is a vibrant city of South Island and have around 20 Muslim families or around 65 individuals (including men, women and children) residing in the district at the moment. Moreover, Timaru is recently selected as refugee resettlement area and it is expected to receive 20 Muslim refugee families by next year.

The place under consideration was a community centre previously. The total land size is around 1700sqm and building is constructed on 350sqm This is build on two floors with a build area which can accommodate over 200 people with a car parking of around 30 cars on site.

Due to being just near to SH1 and within the town, this place is going to be very useful for the community to use as a Masjid, an Islamic Education and Community Centre, a place for our children and wider community to get to understand Islam better (Insha’Allah).

We are a small group and need support to help us realise the completion of the building purchase, we are humbly appealing to our fellow Islamic organisations and community members for your support and financial assistance.

Currently, we have been hiring a hall for our prayer and gathering including for iftar and Taraweeh.

And our beloved Prophet (s.a.w) has said "Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, then Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.” (Bukhari)
