                      “Support for One Happy Family’s NEST”



The refugee community center "One Happy Family" (OHF) on the Greek island Lesvos is founded and run together by refugees and volunteers. The Grassroots Center started its operations in spring 2017 and today it is one of the largest facilities of this kind on the island. OHF is open from 8 to 10 hours per day and serves up to 700 hot meals daily. It has over 3,000 registered visitors, more than 100 students, and runs 20 different projects that are facilitated and initiated by refugees themselves. Meanwhile, OHF is a place of peaceful coexistence and a place of creative collaboration between people of different cultural, ethnic and political backgrounds. OHF empowers the refugees on the island and allows them to escape the inhumane conditions in the camps where they lack access to basic necessities. They lack activities, necessary infrastructure, medical treatment, water supplies, and food; but what is more important - they lack humane recognition by those who are responsible for their wellbeing.

The “Nest” is an indoor playground for youngest refugees in Lesvos. Help us gather sufficient funds to allow these kids at least some escape from grim reality that they must endure.

Humanitas is a humanitarian student organization from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. It brings together professors, students and community members who are committed to raising awareness and helping those affected by humanitarian crises. We work together with refugee and volunteer communities in Michigan, Greece, and Turkey - this is our fourth project this year. We are hoping to acquire sufficient funds to help people at OHF prepare yet another important part of their community – one that recognizes and empowers the aspirations of those youngest affected by current global injustices.
