A story about boyhood in America

Tariq's Cube airs on World Channel October 14th and all week:

*update*

9/23/19 Tariq's cube schedule to air on World Channel on PBS all week starting October 14th! Check your local schedule!

10/15/18 Tariq's Cube wins the Audience Award after screening at GlobeDocs, The Boston Globe's prestigious film festival.

What this is:

This is a campaign to raise necessary funds to bring Tariq's Cube to a larger audience!  All contributions are tax deductible.

Tariq's Cube, a 30 minute film

Tariq's cube follows the journey of a young American boy as he qualifies and competes for national, and soon global, Rubik cubing competitions.  The film follows him over several years as he grows up on camera, and navigates what it is like to be a Muslim in America today.

Over the course of the film, we watch him experience highs and lows of being Muslim in Today's America.  He is most impacted when his mosque receives a letter of hate. Click on this photo to watch a short video:

Why This Story Matters

Tariq's cube charts the rocky terrain of boyhood in America through the eyes of Tariq, a Muslim American boy figuring out his place in the world through a series of Rubik's cube competitions. We learn Tariq's path to adulthood is full of ups and downs, with success and tragedy alike firmly challenging him to figure out who he is and what he wants to do. Add to that the backdrop of a country struggling to figure out how to understand its Muslim neighbors.

In the face of globally recognized controversies like that of 14 year old Ahmed Muhammad, the boy who built a clock which was wrongly determined to be a bomb by his school, stories like Tariq's are important for a number of reasons.  Tariq, too, is an inventor and builds, creates and systematically thinks in a compelling and interesting way.  Born in to a mutli-ethnic family, his father is Guyanese of Indian origin and his mother is a Caucasian convert to Islam, Tariq is navigating the tricky terrain of understanding himself as a Muslim with a diverse racial background.

The Project

A group of seasoned documentary makers serve as the directors, producers and executive directors for this project.  In 2013, cameras followed Tariq as he made his way to national's and continued to follow him through 2017.

Tariq has been competing since 2012 and has had some successes at numerous competitions.

We are raising funds to help bring this completed film to a large audience.

Who We Are

We are a team of documentarians and seasoned storytellers who come to this project with a strong background in story telling, narratives, film and documentary making.  In partnership with an award winning film studio, Tariq's cube will be professionally shot and edited with aspirations for network release in 2019.  Our contacts include executives at PBS, WBUR and HBO. Tariq's cube aims to be a 27 minute network ready documentary. You can visit www.tim.media to see the work of our directors, producers and executive producers.
