Uyghur women and orphans struggle to survive while their husbands and/or fathers have been killed, imprisoned, or sent to concentration camps in East Turkestan.

SITUATION OF UYGHURS

China has sent millions of Uyghurs and other Turkic people in occupied East Turkestan (renamed as Xinjiang) to concentration camps or prisons, where they are forced to denounce Islam, their ethnic identity, and are subject to torture and physical extermination. This has left thousands of Uyghur families torn apart and traumatized, often leaving behind women and children.

Currently, Turkey hosts over 300,000 Uyghurs, many of whom are women and children whose husbands/fathers have been either killed, sent to a concentration camp, or imprisoned by Chinese authorities. They have also been cut off from contacting any remaining family members in East Turkestan, making it nearly impossible to receive financial support from their hometowns.

FUNDS FOR WHAT?

These funds will be delivered directly to Uyghur refugee women and children living in Istanbul, particularly in the neighborhood district of Zeytinburnu where most Uyghurs in Turkey reside. The funds will be used to help them cover rent, food, clothing, and other basic necessities.

The funds will be delivered through the help of the East Turkestan Nuzugum Cultural and Family Center, an Istanbul-based organization providing humanitarian aid to Uyghur women and orphans. In late March, we delivered $76,558. The donations have helped pay for three months worth of rent for 67 Uyghur refugee women (with their kids), 343 monthly allocations to orphans, and continue to help with basic necessities. The campaign is still open!

Receipts will be shared on this page to keep you all updated on how your funds have helped the Uyghur refugee community.

Uyghur Women and Orphans Update

Assalamu Alaykum and Ramadan Kareem everyone!

We just wanted to update you on how your funds have been of tremendous help towards the Uyghur women and orphans in Turkey. The donations have helped pay for three months worth of rent for 67 refugee families, 343 monthly allocations to orphans, and continue to help with basic necessities.

The campaign has been extended and will continue until the end of Ramadan. May Allah SWT accept from all of us and continue to bless this campaign. Please share with your circles!

This picture was taken on March 25 after meeting with Uyghur orphans and widows under the East Turkestan Nuzugum Cultural and Family Centre. Here, some of the Uyghur orphans pose with the check.

Minewwer Ozuyghur, head of Nuzugum, laying out a list of the donation recipients with the number of children, the rent cost of each family, and the total costs for 3 months.
