Help us build a strong community of poets in Gaza.

                                                    Gaza Poets Society

First Spoken Word Community in Gaza

Help us to build a strong community of poets in Gaza

Who we are?

Gaza Poets Society is a growing group of 30+ young and aspiring poets from Gaza who teamed up to form an effective and coherent society of writers in Gaza.

This community of poets need your support so that they can continue to express themselves freely and fearlessly, meet and develop, share their work in public and connect with other poets and universities locally and globally.

They need money to book space, curate their on-line platforms, and to train themselves as performers and writers. On the 19th of July 2018 they held their first spoken word event in Gaza, "Gaza Youth Speaks", giving twenty poets a chance to express themselves and free themselves through poetry, most of them stepping onto a stage for the first time. With your help, they can continue this work.

What do we do?

1- We provide a platform for the aspiring poets and writers in Gaza.

2- We host monthly spoken word event in Gaza.

3- We produce spoken word videos.

4- We hold weekly meetings for the society writers.

5- We communicate with local institutions and holds workshops there presented by our members.

6- We host local and international posts in Skype meetings discussing their works.

Why we do this?

In Gaza, we often believe the world has turned its back on us. It’s easy to lose hope when you’re locked in a place where 70 percent of Gazans are suffering from depression, 60 percent are classified as poor, and 65 percent of college graduates have no job, and no chance of getting one because of Israel’s blockade on Gaza. So, we work hard to build a coherent society of young and aspiring poets, provide a space for them to grow, to inspire and to be inspired. A space where they can find and share their voices, and those voices can be heard

With your support we could connect with you or your organization and start to make the links with other groups and educational communities that will help us to learn and to reach a wider audience. We are also starting an essential fund-raising campaign so that we can not only continue to provide a platform for young and aspiring voices in Gaza to be heard, but also do the following:

• Create a year’s programme of spoken word events
• Rent a meeting space where we can hold weekly training workshops for poets to help improve performance skills and where writers can workshop their material.
• Promote free self-expression and reduce daily stress and depression among young Gazans
• Produce and share spoken word videos and digital content that reflect the reality of youth in Gaza
• Launch a weekly magazine to share the writings of our poets
• Offer paid freelance opportunities
• Build relationships with international spoken word artists and communities."
“Poetry gives me a way to express what I live, what I see, what I experience, what I dream. It is that tool that helps me overcome my fears, relieve my pain”.
Please help these voices be found and heard.

*We have 32 members of our society, most of them, passionate, talented and aspiring voices, looking forward to speak up, and be heard.

    * We need your support to grow our work, so many other talented poets from Gaza can join us and speak up, inspire, and be inspired.

* You are critical to our efforts to provide a space for our poets to grow, to be heard, and to be inspired. You can be a part of this vibrant network of artists by supporting us.

  •    We pay 200$ for renting a theater monthly.
