Hearts Without Homes 

Ramadan is the time we all should want to give. And in the spirit of this holy month, Michigan Muslim Community Council is organizing gift packages to local Muslim foster and local refugee children. We believe these children deserve to experience the priceless moments of joy that come during Ramadan. What seems like the smallest gesture by us to a child can mean the whole world to them.

Many of these "mis-placed" children have been placed in non-Muslim homes and centers. Due to these placements we have heard many different stories from our foster care children. One of our Muslim teen foster girls stated she used to put a t-shirt on her head for prayer to keep up with her faith. Others have been unable to eat parts of meals because they contain pork. Some, particularly younger children, do not even remember what our holidays are or when they are occurring. #fosteringlove

Fostering Love to Children in Foster Care

No child should be left without loved ones. Our aim is to remind the children  that they are not forgotten. There are people standing behind them, extending their love, prayers, support, and help whenever and wherever it is needed. 

In our community alone, there are 75 Muslim children in the foster care system, along with refugee children, bringing the number to over 100 children. The majority of the children being placed in a non- Muslim homes and or centers.

And YOU can make a difference! MMCC has partnered with the Department of Health & Human Services over the past 4 years to identify and help support Muslim children in foster care.  We know that there is a severe shortage of licensed Muslim foster homes. By providing these gift packages, you are able to show these kids that they are not alone. We want them to know they have their Muslim brothers and sisters looking out for their needs. That at the end of the day, they have someone to call family. #fosteringlove

Our Initiative 

We have asked each child what they wanted for Ramadan and Eid. The social workers have also provided their assessment of what the children may need. 

All proceeds will go into creating individualized gift baskets to the children.

$100 =1 basket for 1 child.

This money covers the cost of clothing, shoes, books, toys, and a personal element relating to the child's interest. One child needs curtain rods to hang a curtain for privacy on her window.

Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are well treated. The worst house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are ill treated. I and the guardian of the orphan will be in the Garden like that,” indicating his two fingers.
