Since 2011, Sitara School and Teachers' Institute has provided free education to needy children and aspiring teachers in Chatha Bakhtawar, Pakistan. In 2014, your donations helped us relocate to a wonderful new facility. In 2015 you helped us continue to grow to a student enrollment of 215. Sitara now has a waiting list for play group, nursery, prep and class one The goal of our 2016 Launchgood campaign is to build more classrooms to accommodate those who wait. No needy child should be turned away!
Welcome to Sitara!
Alhamdulilah, our reputation has grown over the years. With excellent teachers, textbooks and technology, Sitara now attracts students from the lower middle and small business class of the village. However, the majority of our students still come from refugee and migrant families. They live in huts without running water, gas or electricity. Lack of basic necessities causes great hurdles to their education, yet they manage to come to school dressed neatly and cleanly in their uniforms most of the time. Struggling parents know that Sitara is the one opportunity their children have to succeed. The longer the children are in our school, the more the parents realize the value of a Sitara education.

Established in 2011 with 20 students, Sitara now provides education in all major subjects including Islam and Qur'an to 215 students. We would love to accommodate more but have run out of space. Your tax deductible donations will go toward building classrooms for both younger and older students. This year we are proud to have an eighth grade girls’ class. But where will the girls go once they pass the Ministry exam? There is no government facility for them in our town. Families have already told us, “If Sitara cannot keep them for high school, they’ll have to stay at home”. These girls have come so far. In five short years, they’ve advanced from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. They’ve earned the right to continue their education. We need your help to establish a girls’ high school on campus. The teachers and students are ready and waiting. All that's needed are the funds!

Our principal, Rizwana Samie, has been with Sitara since 2011. She has an M.Ed in Pakistan Studies and has recently earned one in English as well. She has seen many of our students grow from little girls and boys into young women and men and takes a personal interest in their progress and accomplishments.
Our fifth grade students showed excellent results in the Federal Board exams. Although most of our students do not have an educational environment at home to help them out in their studies, they learned mostly from their school environment with the good guidance of their teachers. The upper grade girls love being a part of Sitara School where they have the best qualified teachers with great teaching techniques and experience.They are very responsible, acting as girl guides for most school occasions. In addition to academic studies, we have very talented students in Tilawat, Hamd and Naat (Quran Recitation, and Islamic songs) In art class, we have numerous students who astonish us with their talents.In sewing class the older girls learned how to cut and sew a shalwar (pair of pants) for their younger siblings. They were very excited to bring these to school to show us.
Vice principal Asma Sayyam is in charge of teacher training through Sitara Teachers’ Institute. Classes are held after school hours to guide teachers in practicing the school motto: Teaching for Understanding. Through Institute classes, teachers learn the value of hands on activities and using the natural environment as a classroom. They also learn how to put technology to good use in the classroom by mastering Power point, making presentations and accessing online learning and teaching resources.
Learning from the Natural Environment
Rizwana, Asma and the rest of the staff and students want you to know how much they appreciate your generous donations. Our students make du’a for you and your families on a regular basis. This past Eid, donor contributions purchased a cow. It was a big job to process all the meat, but the school board and staff made sure each family got their share. You may or may not know that Eid ul Adha is the one time a year some of these families get to eat red meat. Just imagine the value of your contribution in their eyes! Recent studies have shown that the donor benefits even more than the receiver in charitable giving. But Allah (SWT) told us that in the Quran more than 1400 years ago:
Who is it that will lend unto Allah a goodly loan? He will multiply it for him, and his shall be a generous reward. (S. Al Hadid, v. 11)
Our 2016 goal is $30,000 to build more classrooms and to establish the girls' high school. Please give generously.

Ramadan Kareem. First, I’d like to thank you for supporting Sitara in the past years. We appreciate you more than you know.
Sitara has grown by leaps and bounds this past year. We have become an official registered trust in Pakistan and have therefore changed our name to Sitara Trust. After years of successful growth as Sitara School, we have decided to expand our mission to encompass community development. In addition to our elementary, girls’ high school and teacher training program, we now have a Mother Child Center, Craft Center and Sitara Farms and Orchards.

Sneak Preview: Sitara 2018 Fund Raiser Launching First of Ramadan!
Assalamu alaykum Sitara Donors!
Ramadan is fast approaching and with it, a brand new Sitara Fund Raising Campaign on Launchgood. I thought our most loyal donors should be the first to know about the new campaign. After all, our previous campaigns were a success because of you!
We have so much to be grateful for! The high school classrooms, including the lab have been up and running for about six months now. Four new rooms allowed us to go back to full day pre school and KG instead of the half day program we had last year. Some of our classes have reached capacity, including class four, which currently has 27 students!
The biggest piece of news is that we started the Tarbiyah Project this year. For those of you with ties to Islamic education in the U.S, this is the renowned project of Br. Dawud Tauhidi (r). I had the privilege of working Br. Dawud for ten years at Crescent International Academy, and now we have brought the Tarbiyah Project to Pakistan, where it is a natural fit. The teachers and students love the integration of Islamic values and concepts into all the subject areas. Right now, we are delving deeply into the theme of Noble Character, studying the life of the Prophet (s.) and working on how we can improve ourselves, especially during Ramadan.
There are so many great things happening at Sitara and you are a part of it all! Our new campaign will launch as soon as Ramadan begins, so keep your eyes open and don’t forget to share our video and all our info with your friends. Jazak Allahu khairun!

Dear Donors,
Greetings and Salams. After a lovely few months with family and friends I'm back in Pak! Because of your generous donations, I returned laden with gifts, including four brand new tablets and many new library books. The tablets are a wonderful addition to our curriculum because they put technology right into the students' hands. These students do not usually have access to technology at home. Even our teachers learn to use laptops, desktops and tablets here at school. We run training courses for them at the start of the new school year.
Alhamdulilah, (All praise is to Allah) our four new classrooms are almost done. The painter is hard at work with the electrician soon to follow. We should be able to move the students in just a few weeks. We are planning to develop a small lab in one of the rooms for the required high school science curriculum. The others will be high school and middle school rooms. Once we free up the space downstairs we'll add a third pre school classroom and enroll some of the students on our waiting list. Things are looking good!
