Provide a Syrian refugee in Jordan with a full scholarship to access higher education

Avoiding a Lost Generation: Support Syria’s Future Leaders

As a co-leader for the Wesleyan Refugee Project (WRP), I, along with other dedicated student volunteers, have been supporting the Amal-Jusoor Scholarship Fund, to help Syrian youth leaders in Za’atari Camp attend university in Jordan. In just one year, we’ve raised enough funds to sponsor one Syrian youth leader to attend Zarqa University in Jordan. But with only $16,000, the Wesleyan Refugee Project (WRP) can send another Syrian refugee youth leader to university in Jordan through the Amal-Jusoor Scholarship Fund. That’s less than $4,000 for each year of university – which covers tuition, registration, school supplies, textbooks, transportation, and a living stipend.

Higher education has the power to transform communities. Through university education, students gain the skills they need to become future leaders. Yet, the vast majority of Syrian refugee youth living in Za’atari Camp cannot access higher education. Who will be Syria’s future doctors, teachers, and engineers if young people can’t go to college?

A Full College Scholarship for a Syrian Refugee

In the process of selecting our sponsored student, the Amal Foundation met countless inspiring Syrian youth who, in the hardest of circumstances, are working to improve the lives of those around them. They seek higher education in order to better serve their community today and rebuild Syria in the future.

The Syrian student will be partnered with the Wesleyan Refugee Project and the larger Wesleyan community through a virtual cultural exchange. This will build a bridge between American university students and Syrian refugees, increasing intercultural understanding. The student will also have access to other educational resources, such as mentoring and academic tutoring, through the Amal Foundation’s student support program.

A scholarship for one youth leader has ripple effects. Their families and communities would benefit from their skills and knowledge, inspiring hope for a better future. These youth are not a lost generation: they are part of the future generation of leaders.

Help us reach 100% of our campaign (only $500 away)

Salam everyone!

During these 10 blessed days of Dhul Hijjah, I pray that Allah grants you all that you wish for and so much more (an infinite amount of happiness, good health, longevity, and success for you and your loved ones). Again, the generosity you have shown Syrian refugees to attain higher education cannot be repaid by my words alone, so I genuinely pray for all of your wellbeings. Thank you.

As you pray for your family and friends, please also pray for all those who are suffering around the world--including the millions of refugees and displaced persons across the globe. And of course, tell everyone you know that part II of this campaign is 98% to its goal and with a little push, we will fulfill the prayers of a Syrian refugee youth once again.

Read an Article Published today about The Amal Foundation and Yasin, one of last year's scholarship recipients

Salam everyone!

Read this article published today about The Amal Foundation and one of Wesleyan Refugee Project's sponsored students, Yasin, who received the Amal-Jusoor scholarship last year.

Link to article here: https://www.popsugar.com/news/How-Help-Syrian-Refugees-43501577
Read Yasin's story and experience, even if remotely, the journey he's been on--from when the war broke out in Syria to when he arrived at Za'atari Refugee Camp in Jordan, and finally, his current experiences in Zarqa University. Also read about the amazing volunteer work he is currently involved in. Yasin states that he would "work hard to be among those reconstructing Syria for the future, so that [the children of Syria] can live happy lives."
Also read about the non-profit's efforts in building cultural exchange between American and Syrian students, and the organization's goal to humanize refugee aid. As Julie Whittaker, one of the founders of the Amal Foundation, states "The numbers can be overwhelming and numbing. So it's important to remind yourself that these are real people, just like you and me".
And lastly, please donate to our new LaunchGood campaign (LaunchGood.com/SponsoraRefugeeStudent) so we can send more wonderful refugee students like Yasin to College.

Thank you,

Success!

Assalamualaikum everyone,

The project, which ended yesterday, was a huge success! All 4 years have been raised to cover the student's college expenses (3 of which was raised through the generous help of Launchgood and you!). This campaign was an inspiration and I really cannot thank you all enough. Insha'Allah this is something we can do again in the future to fund more students' college expenses.

Follow Wesleyan Refugee Project (WRP) on FB here  https://www.facebook.com/wesleyanrefugeeproject/ and The Amal Foundation https://www.facebook.com/theamalfoundation/?fref=ts for updates and future happenings.

A Continuation of my thanks..

I know I thanked you all in my previous message, but I want to thank you all again. My words may not mean much, but I am so utterly grateful and my heart is so overjoyed with hope and gratitude. Because of you all, a young refugee can continue their education--and this in itself holds the key to empowerment, a better future for themselves, their family, and their country. Thank you all for your kindness.

Thank you thank you thank you,
