We are a group of women from Buffalo, New York volunteering for RAHAMA (Resources and Help Against Marital Abuse), a not for profit organization established to give council and assistance to women and children in need while educating the larger Buffalo community on the reality of Domestic Violence. One of our immediate goals is to provide transitional housing for women and their children as a comfortable, safe haven to rest. We will provide halal meals, a place to pray, and access to local imams. We currently offer culturally competent counseling for women and spiritual support by a group of dedicated social workers and volunteers. We hope RAHAMA Housing will be a light for our sisters in their darkest times and we hope the wider community will help us to start this endeavor through prayers and donations.
Unfortunately domestic violence is a reality that plagues women every day.
"One in four women will experience family violence in her lifetime. Domestic violence affects women of all cultures, religions and ethnic backgrounds. Preliminary research suggests that 15% of Muslims experience or have experienced physical violence. Nobody deserves to be beaten, raped, controlled, insulted or isolated.
Islam holds its followers responsible for speaking out against injustice and doing whatever is possible to end all forms of oppression. (5:8,42:42-43). The Qur'an reminds victims of oppression that if they are powerless to end the oppression, God's earth is spacious enough for them to find a place free of oppression. (4:97)

The members of RAHAMA will, Inshallah (God Willing) have found a transitional housing shelter for 6 to 8 women and their children. The shelter will be located near a bus line so that women will have easy access to transportation.
This transitional housing will be a safe place where women are provided
While no woman will be turned away we will cater to the unique needs of Muslim women which differentiates us from the other area shelters in Buffalo. We will be the only faith based shelter that offers support for domestic violence within an Islamic environment. We also seek to dispel the myths about domestic violence in Islam with the women we serve and in the larger community.
RAHAMA is an organization founded on Islamic principles dedicated to supporting women and children. We provide educational resources, emotional, material and educational support.
RAHAMA has been caring for victims, spreading awareness within our communities, collaborating with local agencies and representing the light of Islam. Established in 2006.
Our work has led us to the realization that we need a transitional housing shelter for women. The need is great and therefore the funds that are collected from this campaign will go to establishing a transitional shelter that can provide a safe haven for women. UPDATE: We Purchased the building for our transitional shelter - hope to open April 2018
RAHAMA IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE PURCHASE OF A BUILDING FOR OUR TRANSITIONAL HOUSING!
Dear Friends and Family,
We are happy to announce that RAHAMA is now the proud owner of a building that will soon be the location of our confidential transitional housing for women and children impacted by family violence. We hope to have the facility up and running by April 2018. As the end of the year approaches, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for all of the community’s support. With your help, we have accomplished much in 2017. We have developed our strategic plan, received a Catholic Health Grant which allowed us to hire a case manager, increased our board membership and developed our volunteer base.
With the purchase of our building we will be able to provide a safe place for women and children who need a place to stay. On average, about 45% of our clients are in need of safe housing and now we will be in a position to provide for this need. In addition to a safe housing program, RAHAMA continues to offer:
● Safety Planning
● Individual and group counseling
● Case management – we have hired a case manager
● Collaboration with area agencies
● Basic needs and rental assistance
● Community education and outreach
As we move ahead to open our transitional housing shelter for women and children in need, your continued support is needed now more than ever during this time of transition. Continuing Our Journey
Dear Supporters and Donors,
Thank you for traveling on this journey with us as we seek to purchase a physical location for our shelter. The RAHAMA team wanted to update you because we had made an offer on a building that we thought would be perfect for the women we serve. The price was right and so was the location. We found out that another party had also made an offer in addition to ours. We were looking to raise $60k in 60 days so that we could pay cash at the closing. We found out however that the other party offered to pay the amount in cash up front in two weeks. The other party’s offer was accepted over ours.
This highlights the need for RAHAMA to have the necessary funds to be able to purchase a building when we find the right location. While we are disappointed, we know that we can only try our best and then everything happens according to the will and permission of God. He must have something better in store for us! Please keep us in your prayers as we actively continue to look for another location.

Continuing Our Journey - We Found a Building!
Dear Supporters,
Almost a month ago we welcomed in the New Year and we would like to wish all the best for you and your loved ones. In the meantime we have been busy looking for a site for our shelter. We have found a wonderful building that has nine bedrooms that will be renovated to house approximately 6 women and their children in one or two bedroom apartments. The building is 6,000 square feet, has a new roof and is structurally sound and the best part is that the price of the building is $60,000.
We are reaching out to you for your continued support to help us to purchase this building and make our transitional housing shelter an reality for the women we serve.
