In this twenty-first century, science and technology are indeed very important in the contemporary society. Henceforth, we; the members of Optical Society of Malaysia (OSM), are preparing to commence the outreach program for the asnaf children in our local community. The program is called- “OSM Light of Hope: Exploring science with asnaf children” and will be held at Ibnu Razak Education Center (IREC), Serting Ulu Negeri Sembilan on 16 Feb 2019. What is more, the programme is intended to introduce the young minds to science (photonics in fiber optics technology) with fun learning thru helping hand from the expertise volunteers of postgraduate students and academic staff!

How you can help us to reach them?

  every kindness is observed by God, may He bestow prosperity to your

Conjointly, the program is comprised of two main sessions:

1) Activities with Light Blox kit - the activities are designed to teach the children on the fundamental rule of light and the way of this gift from God has changed the 21^st century technology revolution around us. Example given are; highspeed internet, HD streaming and video call. With hope, this kit is expected to help the children to explore phenomenon of color shadow, vision, reflection, refraction and many more

2) Activities with Micro:Bit starter kit – it is a tiny programmable computer which can instill knowledge to the children on the basis of programming particularly on how technology around us works (for instance; flood sensor, traffic light, timing gates, smart water sprinkler and so forth)

On top of that, what is more substantial for us is to give the awareness to these children on pros and cons of the development of technology. Via this advantageous knowledge, it is hoped that it can be a medium of dakwah to the society and the one using the technology.

How to aid?

In making the learning to be easier and more fun, we need several tools and equipment especially the laser kit classroom set and Microbit (a tiny programmable computer). Hence, we need you to fundraise our program in achieving this aim as our priority is to provide the tools to IREC students for their exploring and growth. Our goal is to raise RM 12, 400.00 and below are the expenses that are required: -

o   Microbit 30 unit (RM 4800.00)

o   Laser Blox 30 set (RM 3600.00)

o   Misc. Merchandise and etc (RM 4000.00)

Would you like to fundraise our program?

In other respects, should the donation is raised for more than expected target (RM 12,400.00), the fund shall be used to support the next community program.

Over and above, we shall not stop here! The fund will not solely be contributed to this one program, but we are also planning to traverse throughout Malaysia with the focus on the rural/village area schools which have less enlightenment of technology. It is anticipated that the plan will give advantages and interest to the students with regards to science and technology. In July 2019, we shall organize the community program at Melaka. Thenceforth, your contributed fund will be utilized 100% to support the program which directly give advantages to the students.
