Help Las Vegas Shooting Victims & Their Families

UPDATE  1 (Oct 5, 11:00 PM EST): We are overjoyed to reach our $25,000 goal in only 4 days! Since our campaign still has 3 days left, we have decided to increase our goal to $50,000. With over 500 people injured and 58 people killed, there is definitely a need to help the victims with short-term expenses such as medical bills and funerals.

Muslim Americans Respond:
Fundraiser for Las Vegas Victims

#Muslims4LV

In what has been called the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada left 58 people dead and more than 500 injured. Families from across the country, and even outside of it, have lost their loved ones in this senseless and devastating act of violence. This is why a collective of American Muslim leaders and groups have united to raise funds for the victims' families.

The Campaign

As Muslim-Americans, we wish to respond to evil with good as our faith instructs us, sending a powerful message of compassion through action. Our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: "Have mercy to those on earth, and the One in Heaven (God) will have mercy upon you." His life exemplified a central commandment in the Quran: "Repel evil with that which is better" (41:34).

Although this campaign is organized by Muslims, we welcome people of all faiths to contribute (all donations are tax-deductible). No amount of money will bring back the victims, but we do hope to lessen their family's burdens in some way. Let's all stand together against the tragic killing of innocent lives.

The Funds

Fundraising proceeds will firstly help with the immediate, short-term needs of the grieving families - including medical bills and funeral expenses.

Our Team

This campaign was cofounded and is administered by two 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations:

  • Islamic Foundation of Nevada / OHIA - a Las Vegas organization that serves its community by delivering excellent education in an Islamic and moral environment. Osama Haikal is the organization's founder.
  • CelebrateMercy - a national organization that teaches about the Prophet Muhammad's life and character through programs and social campaigns. Its recent campaign - Muslims Unite to Repair Jewish Cemeteries - raised over $150,000 to repair vandalized Jewish cemeteries. Tarek El-Messidi is CelebrateMercy's Founding Director.

Net proceeds from this campaign will be collected by CelebrateMercy and distributed to the families locally by the Islamic Foundation of Nevada. All donations are tax-deductible.

    Imam Shafi'i about tonight

    Salam,

Imam Shafi'i said that there are 5 nights when duas are accepted. Tonight - the 1st night of Eid - is one of them.

CelebrateMercy is hosting a special Ramadan Farewell Dua session tonight to close out the month of Ramadan. Shaykh Yasir Fahmy will give final advice as we bid farewell to Ramadan then lead us in a dua in Arabic and English, begging Allah to accept our Ramadan worship; he'll also read dua requests from the audience. We expect thousands to tune in insha-Allah. Please see the flyer, info, and RSVP link below:

PS: CelebrateMercy is struggling to reach the finish line with our annual Ramadan fundraiser (we're at 90%). If you have benefited from our programs (80 webinars in 30 days) and you can help us sustain them year-round, please consider donating. We also send beautiful appreciation gifts to donors. It would be amazing to hit our goal by Eid day.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and please remember the CelebrateMercy team in your dua!

    Salaam,

    The CelebrateMercy Team

Update: A request (slain Texas teachers)

    Dear Generous Donor,

In October 2017, you donated to support our CelebrateMercy campaign: Muslims United for Las Vegas Victims. Thank you for being a part of raising over $60,000 to help the Las Vegas shooting victims and their families.

I'm part of the CelebrateMercy team and wanted to make sure you heard about our new campaign: raising funds for the families of the fallen teachers in Uvalde, Texas after last week's mass shooting at the elementary school. Last Tuesday, two teachers were killed while attempting to protect their students from gunfire; they left behind 5 children of their own who have now lost a mother and provider. One teacher's husband also just passed away from a heart attack; relatives said that he died of a broken heart only two days after his wife was killed.

This campaign met the fundraising goal of $20,000 in less than 20 hours and continues to increase. Though it's a Muslim-led campaign, friends of all faiths are encouraged to support it. See the official flyer below. You can learn more, volunteer and donate here: LaunchGood.com/Uvalde
