On a monthly average, over 5,000 Rohingya refugees receive lifesaving and comprehensive primary healthcare services at the OBAT clinic. In fact, we have treated over 100,000 patients in Cox’s Bazaar since our doors first opened in February 2018. 

Many of our patients have been the victims of rape, violence, and unspeakable atrocities that require exceptional bedside manner and attentive medical providers. That is why at the heart of each patient encounter at the OBAT Clinic you will find compassionate care.

The Crisis:

In August 2017, the Rohingya community living in the Rakhine state of Myanmar had no choice but to flee for their lives. As villages were burned and civilians were attacked and killed, the Rohingya fled by foot for safety into neighboring Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh.
 The UN has deemed the situation a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing.”  

Arriving with little to no belongings, the Rohingya were provided with a temporary home. OBAT was among the first responders to welcome the Rohingya refugees. OBAT has been providing humanitarian service to displaced populations across Bangladesh since 2004. With firsthand knowledge of the region and boots already on the ground, we were able to quickly navigate and respond to the initial crisis. Among our relief efforts, we have provided shelters, deep tube wells for safe drinking, temporary learning, and health services.

Two Years Later...

Exactly two years later, the community still lives in a refugee camp where they constantly face vulnerabilities including monsoons, violence, crowded living conditions, and health concerns. Needless to say, the healthcare needs continue. Join us in keeping our clinic
