What Happened 2 Rap?

What Happened to Rap?

Please help me free my father 🙏🏽

As-Salaamu Alaikum,

Our goal is to raise $50,000.00 leading up to the Imam's hearing for a new trial!

This project has tremendous value in the worlds of art, academia and politics.  That being said, What Happened 2 Rap? is an ambitious undertaking on a grand scale.
We are assembling a talented and diverse team that is  committed not only to the film, but to the success of the campaign as a whole.  However, there is a significant cost in bringing this vision together.
Your support will make THE difference in our ability to move forward with this effort so again, I thank you...we thank you for your time and support.  Free Rap, Free Imam Jamil...Free My Father 🙏🏽

Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] - other than the disabled - and the mujahideen, [who strive and fight] in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred the mujahideen through their wealth and their lives over those who remain [behind], by degrees. And to both Allah has promised the best [reward]. But Allah has preferred the mujahideen over those who remain [behind] with a great reward -
Degrees [of high position] from Him and forgiveness and mercy.
And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful. Surah Nisaa Verse 95-96

Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day would not ask permission of you to be excused from striving with their wealth and their lives. And Allah is Knowing of those who fear Him. Surah Tawbah Verse 44

What Happened 2 Rap?

Student. Coordinator. Chairman. Firebrand. Revolutionary. Linguist. Poet. Teacher. Reformer. Imam. Builder. Protector. Political Prisoner.
The unbelievable story of H. Rap Brown/Imam Jamil Al-Amin.  An American civil rights icon wrongly accused and falsely imprisoned, still fighting to escape the ghosts of J. Edgar Hoover's United States.
The original jury was never presented with the full story, including another man's confession to the crime. His supporters believe his conviction was the culmination of a decades‐long federal vendetta targeting him for his activism and anti‐establishment rhetoric.
As he sits imprisoned, his family and legal team continue the fight to clear his name and bring him home before the destructive effects of solitary confinement debilitate his mind and body.
After years of appeals and protests from us, his friends, family and supporters, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments on May 3rd, 2019 in Atlanta, GA. This hearing will determine whether we receive a new trial and we would love to see you there.
While we are ecstatic for this win, we now need help. This is where you come in. We need allies such as yourself to assist not only with shining a spotlight on this opportunity for change, but also with the funding of this last push for freedom. Now is the best opportunity we have ever had.  For more information on how to get involved please click here to contact us.  Thank you 🙏🏽.

WH2R? The Talking Points

We have compiled 15 of the most compelling talking points about this case. We have a right to be outraged. Were this any other man, he would be free.
  1. Agent Ron Campbell with the FBI was not originally assigned to this case.  He however insisted he be apart of the arresting team and then subsequently insisted that he drive alone in his own vehicle instead of riding with the team he begged to be apart of.
  2. Agent Campbell is the only person who can establish complete chain of custody for the “evidence” in this case because he was the only agent present at both the crime scene and the arrest site who drove alone from one location to the other.
  3. Agent Campbell is also the only agent to get “separated” from the team once the search began.  The location where Agent Campbell was separated happens to also be the location where the fingerprintless gun was found.
  4. Agent Campbell has a history of planting fingerprint-less guns at crime scenes. In the other instance, he planted the gun only after shooting the suspect in the back of the head so I guess we are lucky.
  5. Agent Campbell was also a key witness for the prosecution (yes it is ridiculous) and while being cross examined, he was caught lying under oath.  Upon being caught, he admitted to being at the location where he is once again accused of planting evidence with no explanation as to why.
  6. Deputy Aldranon English, the surviving victim of the crime gave a vivid and detailed description of the shooter, “5’9 with cold grey eyes” were his primary descriptors.  Mr. Al- Amin/Imam Jamil is 6’5 with brown eyes.
  7. Deputy English also reported shooting his shooter.  Mr. Al-Amin/Imam Jamil was not shot.
  8. Bernadette Davy, the firearms examiner in this case, breached protocol when examining the evidence resulting in faulty results and analysis. She was later  fired from the State for breaching protocol when examining evidence in her cases resulting in faulty results and analysis...Yes really...
  9. Mr. Al-Amin exercised his right not to testify at trial.  Instead of honoring his wishes, The State conducted an impromptu mock cross examination of Mr. Al-Amin where they asked him questions and then hypothetically answered them for the jury during closing arguments.
  10. On appeal, The Courts agreed that Mr. Al-Amin’s Constitutional Rights were violated by the mock cross examination, but the violation did not impact the outcome even after the jury conceded a primary reason for the guilty vote was the spotlight placed on him exercising those rights?
  11. There was and is no physical evidence linking Mr. Al-Amin to the crime.
  12. Otis Jackson committed the crime that Mr. Al-Amin is currently serving life in prison for. Jackson later confessed and signed an Affidavit only for it later to be dismissed and suppressed.
  13. Mr. Al-Amin was ordered not to speak to the media or public during his trial and has since been denied the opportunity to tell his story despite numerous requests from media and scholars alike.
  14. Mr. Al-Amin has served the majority of these last 18+  years in 23 hour solitary confinement for his “protection.”
  15. Mr. Al-Amin was handed from state custody to federal custody with no notification, held without communication and locked up in numerous locations across the country away from his  legal team, family and support system...with no federal charges.

The Budget

Again, we need to raise a minimum of $50,000 to properly shoot, edit, promote and release this film. If we exceed our goal, we intend to use the excess funds to further promote awareness around the documentary and case leading up to and following the hearing. We have confidence that we will be successful in April and thus the fight doesn't end in April, it refreshes. Thanks again for your support.  We want to make sure that the court of public opinion has the entire story before they pass judgement this way, we can hold the courts in the land to uphold their laws and do the right thing. It is time for this innocent man to be free.

Everything Imam Jamil - An Update

As-Salaamu Alaikum and Hello All,

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for the lack of communication on my part and I promise to do better going forward! A lot of folks have been curious about the Imam's health and though he is up in age and suffering from a number of serious conditions including cancer, he seems to be doing fine Alhamdulillah...or at least as fine as one can be under the current circumstances.

His attorneys have recently filed what amounts to another appeal action on behalf of my Father to the Supreme Court so we are still fighting and our pro bono attorney's are still working with us which is definitely a blessing.

As for the documentary, for reasons outside of my control (people willing to speak on camera primarily) we have decided to approach this project as a dramatized mini series much like when they see us. I will be working on this project with my brother Umar Regan and insha Allah, the goal is still to have the project release on a major streaming platform.

Lastly, those of you who are owed a copy of the Imam's latest book, we have not forgotten about you and are working to get that printed and sent out to you as quickly as possible.  Thank you for your patience!

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email and I'll get back to you as soon as I can and thank you again for your support!

Imam Jamil Health Concerns Update

As-Salaamu Alaikum,

I just wanted to give a quick update on my father's health.  As you may or may not have heard through the grapevine, the Imam had a Stroke last week and was transported to the hospital. He has since been returned back to USP Tucson and is recovering well.

Please keep the Imam in your due and what ever efforts you intend to make to support him, make them with haste.

Lastly, please remember that though I understand that I am The Imam's primary point of contact, he is also my father and I am also a son coming to terms with his superhero's mortality. Bismillah, the work continues.

Shukran/Thank You All!

Shukran/Thank you everyone! While we didn't reach our goal, we put a major dent in it and for that we are truly grateful. Alhamdulillah for you and your generosity.

A few updates,

1. The 11th Circuit court of appeals hearing went as well as it could go in our opinion.  However, we are still waiting for their ruling.  In the meantime, we are focused on continuing the fight in the court of public opinion.

2. Now that our crowd funding campaign has ended, we know where we stand and what we need to do.  We are moving into the production phase of this project which means we will be revamping the website but we are also beginning shooting this month as well.  We can't wait to share the trailer with you once it is completed.

3. All donors will receive a copy of the brief that was filed in order to allow us the opportunity to argue in front of the 11th circuit as well as a legal breakdown of the points covered in the hearing.

4. All Donors who are to receive a physical copy of the book, we are currently editing and preparing for print.  We will be shipping out the book copies before the end of this year.

5. All donors who are to receive a physical or digital copy of the documentary will be updated once it is completed.

6. Lastly, we will continue to update you all on our progress through this channel as well as the website, Facebook and instagram.  Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out. The struggle continues.  Free Rap, Free Imam Jamil...Free My Father!

Yesterday was a good day!

Yesterday was a good day.  It was a lot but it was good Alhamdulillah.

The oral arguments went well. I agree with the Judge who stated that our argument was “very well presented.” Much appreciation as always to Attorney Allen Garrett and the entire our entire Kilpatrick Townsend team/family.  Once the transcript of the oral arguments are available, I will be doing a video breakdown of them from my perspective for you all Insha Allah.

The support from around the country was beautiful and in some instances overwhelming in the best way. It’s a blessing and Allah truly sends the help.  I was feeling kind of alone because support wasn’t present in places where I thought it’d be a given but masha Allah, Allah truly sends the help and we are thankful for you all.  Now we will be waiting for the Court to make a decision.

In the meantime, we must continue our efforts to spread the TRUTH.

Also, Thank you to Doug Richards for his fair reporting thus far.

My father called me during the debriefing yesterday and was able to speak to those present and his request was that you remember him in your Dua and remember him to your friends, family and colleagues. Keeping him alive in the hearts and minds of the people is paramount to our success and so, that is exactly what we will do insha Allah.

Shukran again for everything, this is just the beginning.
