Hot iftar meals for people in quarantine and cancer patients in the Gaza Strip

Islamic Relief has identified two vulnerable community groups in Gaza impacted by the effects of the Coronavirus Pandemic and is aiming to increase their food security throughout the month of Ramadan. 

We will provide hot meals for those in quarantine, as well as meals to cancer patients within the hospital. 

​Coronavirus in Palestine

On 30th January, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced a 'public health emergency of international concern' which was upgraded to a Global Pandemic by 11th March. 

On 5th March, a state of emergency was declared and the people of Palestine were forced into lockdown which has had a huge impact on regular life. There has been a gradual up-scale of access restrictions and physical isolation measures to contain the spread of the virus. 

The situation is particularly severe in Gaza, where the health system has been undermined by ongoing conflict, the blockage, internal political divide, chronic power deficit and shortages in specialised staff, medicines and equipment. 

Vulnerable segments in the society are facing the hardest times.
