Life as a refugee trapped on an island can be incredibly difficult for even the strongest of people. For traumatized people fleeing war and terrorism torn countries, living in a constant state of uncertainty and the day-to-day stress of living in an overcrowded refugee camp indefinitely can sometimes amount to a death sentence.

Our dream was to offer a safe space for refugees to access the humanitarian aid needed to survive their journey in a way that restores dignity. A place to feel human again... Together, we CREATED the solution!

HOUSE OF HUMANITY 2.0: Humanitarian Aid & Psycho-Social Therapy Center

Our concept is simple. That you can't ease people's suffering while they're hungry... But, feeding them alone doesn't make it all better either. The House of Humanity offers aid distribution points for food and clothing disguised as a supermarket and clothing boutique returning to refugees the freedom of choice. 

SUPERMARKET

Our free supermarket features food product, hygiene goods, and baby center. Each guest is allotted points based on family size they use like currency for different products. Almost every family goes away with the essentials that will last approximately a week - sugar, rice, cooking oil, luncheon meat and milk. For refugees who often find themselves unable to afford the purchase of food product, our supermarket offers a much welcomed lifeline of support.

CLOTHING BOUTIQUE

Before the House of Humanity, refugees struggled to receive aid. Even when available, they have no choice in what they get. They are given whatever is available before being quickly ushered away. This created a great level of anxiety and tension during distributions and for refugees in need of the aid.

At the House, our guest find that clothing is hung up on railings and placed neatly on shelves as if they have entered a boutique in a mall. They are able to select what clothing they get themselves. Even try them on.

(Note: We opened the doors to the first House of Humanity in May 2017 and our model was incredibly successful! Mother's shopped in the free clothing shop as father's got their supermarket goods while their children played! However, our costs were simply too high and our funding too low so we had to move locations.... Thankfully, the place we found was half the cost and twice as good!
