To honor the memory of Razan and to celebrate the values she lived by. we, Razan’s family, launch this campaign to establish The Razan Foundation/Fund which is in the process of being created.

Who is Razan?

Razan, a 21-year-old medical volunteer, was shot in the chest by an Israeli sniper during the Great Return March protests on Friday 1 June 2018 where she was providing medical attention to those injured by the Israeli army.

She was the first female medical responder to serve in Gaza and she showed great bravery in this role becoming a role model and a source of inspiration to people around the world.

A month ago, in a conversation with the New York Times, Razan said:

“We have a goal,” “to save lives and evacuate people. And to send a message to the world: Without a weapon, we can do anything.”

The foundation/fund will be an independent organisation set up to honour, inspire,  and empower brave female first responders, nurses, and doctors. This will be done through scholarships, an honorary annual prize, and supporting women’s empowerment and peace initiatives.

The foundation/fund values are based on what Razan believed in:

         Freedom, equality, women’s empowerment, peace and love;

●     that accountability and transparency are the key to building trust amongst different communities;

●     that women in the Middle East can be the drivers behind sustainable development and that their voices should be empowered;

●     that in peace ”without weapons we could do anything”; and

●     that freedom is a right for everyone and that those seeking freedom should be honoured.

All proceeds from this campaign will be distributed via the foundation/fund to worthy causes in line with the values above. In the event that the donations received are not sufficient the proceeds will be distributed to organisations in Gaza who operate in light of Razan’s values.

We have been contacted by many people who want to donate in the last days of the holy month of Ramadan as part of their sadaqa. We have also been reached out to by people around the world who recognise Razan’s values and seek to honour her memory. This is the reason that the Foundation/Fund is being established. The campaign team consists of Dalia Alnajjar (Razan’s cousin) and Walid Aburock, Gazan independent journalist and activist.
