Farashe Yoga Center in Palestine wants to create the first Arabic Yoga curriculum for teachers.

*UPDATE: Thanks to the incredible support shown, we reached our goal! So, Majdal will take the 300 hour yoga therapy teacher training. Now, we are working on stretching the goal to $3500. With this extra money, we will be able to fund a male teacher with a scholarship to Seven Centers. We have a lack of male yoga teachers in Palestine, and by including a male on our team, we will ensure well rounded team that will accommodate to both genders.

A Quick Look

Farashe Yoga, a Palestinian non-profit yoga center, needs your help in the initial steps of starting the first yoga teacher training in Arabic. This first step includes sending five teachers to Sedona that will create the team of teacher trainers, so far we have sent two teachers and we need one more to move to the next step, so we need to send Majdal Sobeh, to take the 300 hour therapeutic yoga  teacher training course at 7 Centers Yoga Arts in Sedona. This course will qualify Majdal to join a team of teachers who have taken the training (and future teachers who will take the training)  to develop an extensive Arabic yoga teacher training curriculum.

Why Yoga?

Yoga is a strong tool to relieve stress, trauma and all related illnesses (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, migraines, depression). In Palestine in particular, healing resources are limited; so, with spreading yoga, we are offering tools that will release trauma and stress so the individuals can be more efficient in their community.

What is Farashe Yoga Center?

Farashe is a nonprofit and volunteer-based community yoga movement based in Ramallah, Palestine. Our aim is to constantly provide a safe environment where one can experience the physical and mental benefits of yoga. Whenever possible, we parktake in outreach programs and offer a variety of workshops in nutrition, stress management and more.

Why are we developing an Arabic Yoga Teacher Training Curriculum?

 1. Instead of having to travel miles and miles away to learn yoga in a foreign language, Farashe  Yoga Center will Arabize yoga with this initiative in order to make yoga more accessible for the 420 million native Arabic speakers across the globe.

2. Due to the lack of Arabic speaking yoga teachers in Palestine, our outreach outside of Ramallah has been limited. By creating a strong Arabic Yoga Teacher Training curriculum, we will be able to train teachers from multiple cities, villages, and refugee camps, making such areas sustainable with their own regular teachers.

Where are we in the process?

The international yoga community has shown generous help in this project. The idea was developed with 7 Centers Yoga Arts in Sedona, Arizona, who have provided several scholarships for 200-hour and 300-hour teacher trainings that will cover the course tuition fees. Yoga Impact in Kineta, Greece also offered 2 scholarships for 300-hour teacher training courses.

With this support, we are now in the process of building a strong team of yoga teachers capable of creating and teaching a strong Arabic Yoga Teacher Training curriculum.

Two Farashe teachers have completed the 500-hour teacher training course at 7 Centers Yoga Arts in Sedona, Arizona last year. Majdal, who has been a volunteer at Farashe for the past two years, has gone this past October for the 200-hour teacher training course.

Teachers going to partake in Yoga Impact scholarships are yet to be determined.

How we need your help now?

The generous scholarships awarded only cover the course tuition fees. We ask your help in funding our teacher Majdal to complete her second part of the 500-hour yoga teacher training, so she can help us develop this initiative. Having gone this past October (2017) for the first part of the training, Majdal is having difficulty funding her airfare and accommodation costs.

Spread the word and any form of help is dearly appreciated!

How will we move forward after this step?

After Majdal completes her training, and a few more teachers are selected to use the scholarships, the team will be developed and completed. With that team, we will then provide sample classes and projects in various villages and refugee camps while we develop the Arabic Yoga Teacher Training curriculum.

Once the curriculum is completed, we will offer the program on a consistent basis at Farashe Yoga at a reasonable cost, with various scholarships.

Palestine: Yoga Teacher Training Update

Dear Friends,I'm excited to share with you all what's happening with Farashe Yoga's teacher training! I sincerely apologize for not updating you earlier, but we've been quite busy with the training, which could not have happened without you!!After completing the training in the US in 2018, we started putting together the curriculum. Our curriculum focuses on the therapeutic aspects of yoga, combined with Ayurveda (the ancient medicinal system of India) in order to spread wellbeing across Palestine. We officially started our first 200 hour yoga teacher training fully in Arabic January 2020. It is a 9 month long program, where we meet one weekend per month. We are currently a team of 4 volunteer teachers leading 12 students from Ramallah and Bethlehem. We continued training even with COVID-19. We moved online for the months of March, April, May, and currently weighing out the options for the upcoming weekend in June. The students are expected to graduate the training in September (this may take a bit longer if we continue to meet online), where they can then embark on their own teaching journey, spreading yoga into their communities. Thank you for being part of our journey. We are truly grateful you were part of spreading the wellbeing in Palestine. With much loving kindness, Majdal Soboh
