The population of Capitol Heights, MD is largely made up of non-white minorities, with more than 67% of the population having less than a Bachelor's degree and an unemployment rate of 10.2% compared with the national average of 7.9%. As a result, many of the community members rely heavily on the generous support of the Center.

Due to limited revenue, the Center has recently fallen behind on mortgage payments and is danger of losing the property.  The Center is in immediate need of $15,000 to keep its doors open

The Islamic Research and Humanitarian Service Center of America (IRHSCA) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) academic and cultural institution, concerned with general issues of Islamic thought established in 1999 under the leadership of Sheikh Abdul-Rahman Yaki and a small group of Muslim families in Prince Georges County, MD. 

Over the years, IRHSCA has grown and continued to transform the lives of individuals and families in the DC Metro area.  The Center provides a stable, accepting and spiritually enriching environment for the community and acts as a resource for Islamic learning, growth and development for all Muslims.  

Among its many services, IRHSCA provides support for new Muslims who make up a significant percentage of the community (IRHSCA averages 3 new conversions weekly). Other services include:

• Arabic courses
• Qur'an and Tajweed classes
• Financial help
• Family Services, drug abuse counseling, anger management courses 

IRHSCA provides classes and groups to support for anyone who seeks assistance by providing as much spiritual and community support possible.

The name "Islamic Research and Humanitarian Service Center of America" (IRHSCA) reflects the founders’ belief that the main objectives should be to both pursue knowledge of the Islamic sciences and serve humanity. It has also become a leader creating an atmosphere of inclusion, community and the improvement of Muslim marriages and family relations. 

IRHSCA holds a weekly Salaat'ul jummah that accommodates nearly 300 weekly worshippers, as well as a full range of Islamic curricula, a program designed to assist new converts, and efforts to cultivate positive relationships with the surrounding interfaith and non-Muslim community.

Many of the classes taught at IRHSCA are made possible by generous donations and by deep discounts to attendees, many of whom may be struggling financially or in a transitional period in their lives where money is a source of hardship.

My kids go to the weekend school and my husband and I even got married there. The knowledge they provide keeps you coming to the masjid year-around. It feels like home to me." -- Sis. Darlene 

Every dollar that you contribute to IRHSCA will be used to keep the doors of the Center open and to continue the courses and services available to the community.

• a pious child whom he left behind, 
• a copy of the Qur’ân that he bequeathed, 
• a mosque that he built, 
• a guest house he built for travelers, 
• a river that he made to flow, 
• and charity he spends from his wealth when he is in good health 

– all of this continues to avail him after his death.”
