It all started with this book:

Brother Ansari became Muslim in prison. "Allah finally debased me enough to the point that I would finally hear Him," he says about his conversion.

Ansari made it his mission to learn his religion in prison. For years, he took notes in this blue book.

​"You learned all of this in prison?!"

Ansari was the first in his group of prisoners to be released and he soon connected to Shaykh Rami Nsour, who had recently returned from his studies in Mauritania. 

When Shaykh Rami read through Ansari's blue book, he was amazed: it was far more advanced than what he's seen from most Muslims in free society!

Teaching Muslim prisoners (mostly converts) their faith

Through Ansari, Shaykh Rami connected to a number of Muslims in prison, nearly all of them converts.

He began to teach and answer questions, but the demand began to grow beyond what anyone expected.

​There was no stopping

Realizing that the need of Muslims behind bars is far greater than what one person could address, Shaykh Rami founded Tayba Foundation with co-founded Nabil Afifi.

But the demand never stopped growing. From a handful of students, Tayba now serves over 2,500 every year. From a single course, it now offers 14 courses, complete with textbooks written in-house specifically for prisoners.

​1 in 10 US prisoners becomes Muslim. That's 200,000 Muslim converts behind bars.

Few of our brothers & sisters behind bars have access to an accurate knowledge of Islam. Fewer still have resources to succeed upon re-entering free society.

Tayba's growth has been dramatic, but it still barely scratches the surface. According to our estimates, we serve about 1% of the Muslim prison population.

Help Tayba secure a new office

Earlier this year, our landlord raised our rent by 30%. Our office was already growing too small for Tayba's expanding operations, so we went back to the drawing board.

After careful analysis, we decided that it would be in the best interests of the organization to purchase its next office space. You can read about the decision here.

All the materials that are sent to Tayba's students are sent from our office. All the student questions are answered by letter or by phone from here too. Much of our staff works daily out of the office, ensuring that Tayba's work continues and grows.
