An App for Muslim children to enjoy & learn good values, good virtues and basic Islam From Omar & Hana through 3D animation, videos, interactive storybooks, and interactive games. 

Our mission is to create quality Islamic cartoons and content (of equivalent appeal and attraction as Disney, Nickelodeon, etc.) for Muslim children all around the world. 

Omar & Hana content has proven to be fun, entertaining and educational for children, teaching them good values and basic knowledge of Islam like du’as, prayers and good character and virtues. Omar & Hana content aims to complement the Muslim parents' efforts in providing a strong foundation of Islam to our young, preparing them to become great Muslims - Insha’Allah.

Omar & Hana is the brainchild and inspiration of Digital Durian (DD), an animation startup by two budding entrepreneurs based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

Omar & Hana was launched in April 2018. Since then, we have more than 1.5 billion views and 3.5 million subscribers in total on YouTube. These numbers tell us that Omar & Hana is benefiting millions of children and families all over the world. Alhamdulillah. We have also collaborated with influential Muslims (and Islamic brands) like Mufti Menk, Zain Bhika, Omar Regan, Neelofa, Zaky and Maryam Masud.

Alhamdulillah. Such positive and inspiring feedback from parents humble us, and fuel us to do more and create more impact. 

There are very limited high-quality Islamic cartoons for children in the market due to high budgets. To produce a high-quality 3D animated cartoon - especially to compete with Disney's and Nick’s - costs millions of dollars. 

With the will and grace of Allah, we invested and took the leap of faith - we invested and we worked hard. And Subhanallah, we now see the extraordinary impact of Omar & Hana around the globe.

We are consistently finding the best ways to educate our young Muslims. 

Through research, feedback and brainstorms - we decided that an Omar & Hana App is the next step for Omar & Hana to educate our young Muslims. An app that has animated content, interactive content and videos that engage and teach our children about the basic of Islam.

1. Funds for the Unexpected Stretch in Development Timeline

We originally estimated that the app would be ready in 3 months. However, we are  now in month 6 of production, and expect another 6 weeks of heavy development.

2. Challenging times on YouTube 

In September 2019, the FTC fined YouTube $170 million to settle charges for illegally harvesting children’s data in order to serve them personalised ads (COPPA law). In January 2020, YouTube disabled numerous features — including the ability to serve targeted advertising on those videos.

This law affected us significantly. Omar & Hana saw a 70% decrease of revenues from our YouTube channels - significantly affecting our cash flow and ability to create more content. 

3. For the Team

There are 130 of us in Digital Durian, with over 70 of us working on Omar & Hana. We are a dynamic and talented team of professionals who are constantly giving our very best, and pushing our limits - in scripts to animations and all the way to marketing - to produce quality, valuable and impactful content for your children. Our  team need your help to continue our inspiring work and help feed our families.

The content of the app will focus on developing akhlaq, good Islamic values and virtues, as well as lessons on the history of the Prophets, the companions and Islamic role models. Children (and parents!) will be able to learn about Islam in a fun and entertaining way and Insha’Allah grow up to become confident wholesome Muslims in the future.​

The Omar & Hana App started it’s development in November 2019. We had planned to complete the development of the app in January 2020. However, during the process, we realised that so much more man hours were needed to deliver an app of high-quality, with comprehensive and concise Islamic content. We extended our development from January to June 2020.

3. 20th June 2020 : Merchandises will be couriered to donors

As at May 2020, the app is already 90% complete. Insha'Allah it will be launched according to plan. The main challenge for us is what happens after the launch. We need to make sure we raise enough funds to sustain the app and the team - to continuously create new quality content on a weekly basis. 

Help us to produce and launch this app, and allow us to keep producing high quality content in the app in the coming months. You may contribute either in the form of subscribing to the app or in the form of sadaqah (voluntary charity) to the project. All the monies collection will be used to fund the development and production of the app, or the salaries of the team - which will bring value and learning to Muslim children and parents around the world. The contributions will also, Insha'Allah, benefit each and everyone of us in the Hereafter.

Digital Durian (DD) is a leading animation company with over 10 years experience in creating meaningful content, and making a difference in the world of parents and children.
