Meet Us

Meet Asma, Naim, Abrar, and Sara.  They each have a story to tell which you may find very familiar or you have a loved one who will go through something similar if not worse.  Before they tell their stories, ask yourself, when you were younger did you hear the common phrase “Go to college so you can get a good job”.  Absolutely!  We all heard this throughout our youth and probably are now even saying it to others.  For the vast majority of us, going to college or university is a top priority.  However, with the astronomical increases in student tuition, many families are now asking “Can we even afford college”?

Our Problem

The problem with student loans is simple, it's interest based.  As observant Muslims, we are commanded to avoid interest at all cost and its consequences are serious.  Other than the religious implications of having an interest-bearing loan,  studies show students who graduate with excessive debt are more likely to say that it caused delays in major life events, such a buying a home, getting married, or having children.  What's worse is the amount of stress and guilt a student faces knowing they have a loan that is growing constantly, weighing on them and their families.

As you can see, the challenges of studying at institutions of higher education go beyond the classroom.  It's dealing with the constant fact that there is a student loan that needs to be paid and because of the interest rate, the amount is growing rapidly.  Depression and anxiety are a few of the emotional tests students must face which could have a detrimental effect on their grades.  This constant worry doesn’t go away after graduation but rather it continues years into a student’s career.

When Asma, Naim, Abrar, and Sara applied for an interest-free loan.  We saw more than numbers on an application.  We saw the future of our communities.  In recent studies, those with higher education are more likely to be engaged with their community.  Our hope is to bring about a generation of graduates that will have a strong Muslim identity and be well-versed in their fields, using BOTH for the benefit of mankind.
