Support the campaign to bring home our friend, mentor & fellow American Mohamed Soltan

Who is Mohamed Soltan?

Mohamed Soltan is an American citizen, a graduate of The Ohio State University, and a well-loved individual by all who met him. He was recently, on April 11th 2015, handed a life sentence in Egypt. In 2013, Mohamed was peacefully protesting for democracy in Egypt, and acting as a citizen journalist before he was shot in the arm, then later arrested by Egyptian police forces.

He has been in prison for 550+ days on politically motivated charges. He has been beaten and tortured, and has spent a substantial portion of his imprisonment in solitary confinement. Mohamed has a fatal pre-existing medical condition, and during his imprisonment he suffered from increased clotting of his blood, leading to serious complications. He has lost over 100 lbs and his condition is rapidly deteriorating. To protest his unjust detention, he has been on a hunger strike for over 440+ days, as a way to peacefully but powerfully bring attention to his situation.

Freedom & Democracy

Mohamed Soltan is a passionate individual, who believed that freedom and democracy should be enjoyed by Egyptians as well. In return, he has been silenced and tortured in several Egyptian prisons. As a nation that prides itself on justice and democracy, it is an abomination that Mohamed Soltan has been in prison for even a day. Please consider his cause and help us bring him home.

The Free Soltan Movement

We are a group working diligently to free our friend, mentor, and fellow patriotic American citizen, Mohamed Soltan. Our campaign is made up of attorneys, physicians, social workers, students, and concerned citizens of every religion and race. We are concerned for his life and well-being, and ask you to join us in helping raise awareness and support for his cause.

The Free Soltan Campaign wishes to continue and make progress by increasing our pressure by having more media presence and bolstering public support of American citizens who want to see our leaders protect Mohamed’s inalienable rights and secure his swift release. The campaign has several projects and initiatives in the planning stages, but would need financial support from community members to see these ideas translated into action. The funds raised would be used for the following:
  • Information pamphlets regarding Soltan’s arrest and case status
  • Action and education packets/materials for community/campus ambassadors
  • Multi-media projects: YouTube, documentary film, public announcements.
  • Community actions events, rallies, and demonstrations.
  • Advertisements including bus ads and other effective ads.
Also stay in touch with us through Facebook and Twitter!

Sincerely,
The Free Soltan Campaign

Refund

To our Free Soltan supporters,

We are humbled by the amount of support we received over the past two years of Mohamed's ordeal. As many of you know, Mohamed has been released and returned to his family back in the U.S. Therefore, we won't be needing to use your kind donations and are providing each one of you with a full refund. We encourage you to continue supporting similar causes for there are 40 thousand prisoners imprisoned behind Egypt's notorious prisons.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

The Free Soltan Campaign

Mohamed Soltan released

Dear FreeSoltan supporters,

As a team, we are incredibly grateful for all your kind donations and support to the campaign. We are glad to share with you the news that Mohamed Soltan has been released and is on his way back to the US. Below you will find the family statement regarding Mohamed's release.

"By the grace of God, we are incredibly happy to confirm that Mohamed is on his way home after nearly two years in captivity. After extensive efforts, the U.S. Government has successfully secured Mohamed’s deportation back home to the U.S., mercifully concluding this dark chapter for Mohamed and our family. We are forever indebted to the countless individuals who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure his release, the vast majority of whom have never even met Mohamed. To witness you all – regardless of race, religion, political affiliation, gender, age – come together during this time has been greatly illustrative of the power of the human spirit and we are in awe of each and every one of you. The past two years have been profoundly instructive on not only the variety of torments that individuals are capable of inflicting upon one another, but, more importantly, on our ability to unite and work together behind universal principles of human dignity to effect some measures of justice during our limited time here. We are, however, forever cognizant that there are many nameless individuals in this world who continue to wrongly languish in captivity. We encourage each and every one of you to champion their causes, as you have so graciously done for Mohamed, and pray that they and their families one day feel the same relief that we feel today. As you can imagine, after spending several hundred days on hunger strike, and many months in solitary confinement, Mohamed's health is dire. He will receive medical treatment as soon as he arrives on U.S soil and will spend the immediate future with his family recovering."

Thank you,

The Free Soltan Team
