Thousands of hourly workers in Pakistan have become jobless due to Covid-19. HOPE USA is raising funds to provide grocery staples for 3,000 families affected.

Covid-19 Grocery Rations for the Poor in Pakistan:

HOPE USA is stepping up to the plate to provide grocery staples to 3,000 poor families (18,000 individuals total) in Pakistan who have lost their wages during the COVID-19 crisis.  For just $20, we are delivering grocery rations to these needy families.  One ration bag can feed 6 people for one month and includes the following:

Our goal is to provide 3,000 needy families with basic groceries so that they can feed their families during this pandemic.  We plan to deliver groceries in the following areas of Pakistan: Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Muzaffargarh, and Muzaffarabad.

The Entire World Has Been Affected:

The Covid-19 pandemic is one that has affected every single family in the world.  In the US, millions of families are currently sequestered in their homes in order to practice social distancing and abide by government orders.  We worry about how this pandemic will affect our job security and how long it will be before we resume a normal routine.

The Poor in Pakistan have lost their jobs due to Covid-19:

In Pakistan, the Covid-19 situation is even more perilous for the already impoverished population.  Millions of hourly wage earners who used to earn their living as domestic laborers, shopkeepers, and street vendors have lost their jobs as Covid-19 spreads across Pakistan.  We hope that the effect on Pakistan is not severe, but for poor people who depend on daily wages, this pandemic poses an additional threat of them not being able to put food on the table for their families.  In addition to the danger of the virus, poor families face the threat of starvation.  At HOPE USA, we are aiming to alleviate some of that financial burden for these families with the delivery of grocery basics to those who need it most.

About HOPE USA

Health Oriented Preventive Education (HOPE) was the inspiration of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, a pediatrician by profession who helped eradicate polio from Pakistan in the early stages of her career.  Due to Dr. Mubina's medical background, HOPE's initial objective was to provide the poor with better access to medical centers and hospitals.  In a country grappling with basic issues such as lack of access to clean drinking water, poor maternal and infant health, malnutrition in children, prevention and treatment of diseases such as malaria, cholera, and tuberculosis, it already seemed as though HOPE had enough of a challenge on its hands. But soon Dr. Mubina realized that the cornerstone of a productive and forward-thinking community relies on both a healthy body and healthy mind. She honed her vision to an integrative approach that was twofold: health and education.

As a single woman in a male-dominated country, Dr. Mubina faced many challenges and setbacks; it was through perseverance and hard work that HOPE grew from a dream to a reality. Today, HOPE has a countrywide presence throughout Pakistan which includes hospitals, formal schools, informal schools, vocational centers, basic health clinics, mobile health clinics, and maternal health clinics, all which provide free or minimal-cost healthcare and education. Additionally, HOPE has been active in disaster relief efforts throughout Pakistan. We are humbled to say that we have grown to a network of hospitals and schools that treats 500,000 patients and educates 10,000 students per year, mostly women and children.

Summary of HOPE USA Ramadan 2020 ZAKAT Accomplishments

Dear HOPE Friends,

I wanted to thank you all personally for your generosity and support of HOPE USA this Ramadan! By the Grace of Allah SWT, we broke fundraising records this year, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our impact extended from rural and adjoining areas in Karachi to Katchi Abadi's to interior Sindh to Muzaffargarh to Azad Kashmir.

Please note that HOPE USA also uses Zakat year-round for the following noble causes:

200 Food Ration Bags Distributed in Thatta

Dear HOPE Friends,

HOPE USA's Food Rations Campaign continues. Prior to Ramadan, we had distributed 1,000 food rations to poor families who were financially impacted by coronavirus. To date in Ramadan we have distributed 500 rations and plan to do 500 more before the month ends. Below, please find the pictures of the distribution in Thatta. We were able to give 200 families in Thatta food rations for one month. Thank you all for your generosity in supporting this project.

As a side note, we have collected funds for food rations to Kashmir families. All the roads leading into Kashmir are currently blocked due to the lockdown. HOPE has sent money to 100 families so that they can acquire their own food rations because we are unable to access the area. Once the lockdown opens, we plan to give food rations to 100 more families in Kashmir.

Thank you all for your generosity in support of this project!  We are still collecting funds, so please spread the word if you can.  This is a zakat-eligible cause.

We reached our Goal in 7 Days! Now to Aim Higher and to More Families!

    Dear HOPE USA Friends,

I wanted to sincerely thank you all for stepping up to the plate so generously these past 10 days.  By the Grace of Allah SWT, we reached our goal of $10,000 in 7 days, the fastest one of our campaigns has ever performed!

As many of you may know, Pakistan is currently in lockdown mode due to coronavirus.  The HOPE Pakistan team is aiming to order the rations bags and do the packing and deliveries in the next 4 weeks in shaa Allah.  Due to the overwhelming success of achieving our $10,000 goal so quickly, we have decided to try to reach 500 additional families for a total of 1,000 families.

Please keep this campaign going by sharing it on social media.  In shaa Allah this way we will be able to serve even more needy families during this crucial time.

Thank you again for your support and commitment!

    Best regards,

    Ambereen Siddiqui
