CAIR-NY: The Fight's Only Begun

The dangers of religious bigotry have rarely been clearer, the threat to civil rights for Muslims has never been starker.  This Ramadan, the first celebrated under President Trump, New Yorkers have a unique opportunity to build the architecture of resistance and the capacity to defend the rights of all New Yorkers.

This year, a group of committed supporters has offered to match all donations CAIR-NY receives up to $50,000. This is your chance to double the impact of your generosity! Together, we can build a stronger CAIR-NY to support the needs of Muslim New Yorkers!

With a donation to CAIR-NY, you help fund the legal campaigns to block discriminatory policies and legal services for those most in need, helps fund the legal campaigns to block discriminatory policies and legal services for those most in need: the Muslim teen who is bullied for her hijab or the rideshare driver brutally attacked for his faith. 

Muslims of all ages saw a rapid spike in hate crimes

In 2016, Muslims in America faced increasingly unsafe conditions. Across the nation, we saw our communities targeted with violence and discrimination. We saw the political rhetoric of the campaign trail encouraged others to lash out against Muslim Americans. Young Muslims faced a surge in anti-Muslim bullying, both verbal and physical, while adults saw increasing harassment and discrimination in the workplace. Most distressing of all, Muslims of all ages saw a rapid spike in hate crimes.

2017 saw a continuation of these terrifying trends, but it saw much more. Muslims saw their civil rights curtailed, having been detained or sent away at the border. There were fears of deportation, of officers arriving at the homes and workplace, of families being torn apart. And, of course, there was the Muslim Ban.

CAIR- NY is on the front lines supporting the Muslim community!

At this moment, when America’s political leaders seek power at the price of our greatest traditions of religious liberty and equality, CAIR-NY is on the front lines fighting back! We have worked diligently to support the needs of the Muslim community. In the last six months alone we've:

• Provided free legal assistance in over one hundred and fifty cases, 
• Held an emergency rally that drew more than 5,000 people, and 
• Hosted a state-level Muslim Advocacy Day.  
  
  

Our Goals for the Future

CAIR-NY is an ambitious chapter, and with the large and diverse community we serve, we have to be. We hope that with your help, we hope to: 

• Hire more staff attorneys, including immigration specialists;
  
• Develop branches throughout New York State;
• More training and workshops, free of charge; and 
• Bring more lawsuits to challenge discriminatory policies.
