Medical supplies in Aleppo are running low

Since the ceasefire in Syria ended, the city of Aleppo and its surrounding area have seen the worst of the bombardments targeting mainly civilians and civilian infrastructure including busy markets, hospitals, medical points, water purification centres, civil defence centres, rescue teams, ambulances, fire trucks, mosques, warehouses for medical supplies and stocks in addition to civilian homes.

In just 8 days:

Islamic Relief is already on the ground in Aleppo

As one of the very few NGOs that still has an operational office inside Aleppo city, we are standing alongside the Syrian people and supporting them in their hour of need. Thanks in part to Islamic Relief, Aleppo’s makeshift hospitals are doing their best to operate on the severely injured and treat the wounded. 

Additionally, in the last few weeks Islamic Relief delivered several shipments of medical equipment, emergency medical supplies and medicines to various hospitals and medical points inside Aleppo in anticipation of the expected increased number of casualties from the air strikes. Additionally, our monthly food distribution inside Aleppo is still ongoing and we’ve just finished distributing 2,400 food parcels one week ago.

However, as attacks have intensified, the need is greater than ever.  Medical supplies are extremely low in the makeshift hospitals, yet the number of those injured arriving are increasing by the hour.

The Project

Our field teams inside Syria, and in Aleppo, are continuously monitoring the situation and the urgent needs on the ground.  From their preliminary assessment they have identified the need for essential medical supplies and medicines to support emergency medical services as absolutely urgent.

These needs will only escalate if the attacks on Aleppo continue at their current pace or if the imminent besiegement of Aleppo city becomes a reality.
