Bringing water to those in need, one well at a time

The Afghan Community Project: Bringing Water to Mazar E Sharif, Afghanistan

Zam Zam Water, in collaboration with Central Afghanistan Welfare Committee (CAWC), proudly presents The Afghan Community ProjectCAWC is an NGO, as well as, a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) partner within the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan since 1989. This project is divided into 3 phases, designed to provide water, shelter, and electricity for an entire area of land that is otherwise uninhabitable in Mazar E Sharif, Afghanistan.

Why The Afghan Project?

According to the United Nations, there are over 680,000 IDP’s (internally displaced persons) in Afghanistan, 24,000 of them returning refugees. Many returnees have migrated to towns and cities, contributing to the country's rapid urbanization. Rising poverty and unemployment in urban centers prevent them from reintegrating into society. Scarce resources and limited basic infrastructure are linked to poor employment opportunities, which also affect the sustainable reintegration of Afghan returnees.

Be A Part of the Change

Help us by providing clean water as the initial step to breaking the cycle of poverty. Access to clean water gives a person the opportunity to live a healthy and productive life.

Join us by building the foundation for a community in Mazar E Sharif, which is located in the northern region of Afghanistan. Let us work together to provide this opportunity that will DIRECTLY affect thousands of lives for generations to come.
  • Donate: Give a generous donation to help those who don't have access to clean water.

Donations are 100% Tax Deductible.

3-Phase Project

Phase 1:  Dig a 500 FT. deep, 20 FT. wide water well and construct a 50 FT. high water reservoir that can hold up to 12,500 L's of water and is capable of serving 350-500 families. This water scheme will be equipped with a solar-powered electrical outlet to provide eco-friendly renewable energy source and cut maintenance costs for the villagers.

Phase 2: Provide the villagers with the necessary resources to help build homes and shelters for themselves. CAWC has access to deliver doors, windows, roofing, tools, generators, and other supplies necessary for these villagers to build their own community in which to live in

Phase 3: Furthering our construction by building an irrigation system to provide potable water to each home. We will also be able to provide electricity to the homes through wind turbines, solar-powered energy, or multiple generators, contingent on the weather patterns and landscape of the area. Contingent on the amount we raise, we have the capability and resources to construct a Mosque, clinic, agricultural garden, playground, and/or school.

About Zam Zam water

Zam Zam Water is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization focused on bringing water to those in need, one WELL at a time. The story of Zam Zam water dates back to the Prophet Abraham. Islamic tradition holds that while venturing out in the middle of the desert valley, Abraham was walking with his wife, Hajar, and their infant son, Ismael. Consequently, when Hajar and Ismael were left alone, she desperately searched for water in a dry, barren land, all the while she was running back and forth hopelessly praying for God's mercy. God answered her prayers and quenched her thirst by causing a spring to rise at the feet of Ismael. This Zam Zam well has been running continuously ever since.

Over 750 million Abraham's, Hajar's, and Ismael's continue to walk this earth aimlessly trying to access clean water. Our aim at Zam Zam Water is to act like the original Zam Zam well and bring water to those in need, one well at a time..
