​The same bricks since 1983

In just under 40 years, our community has grown from a few families to a few thousand Muslims in mid-Missouri. The mosque we call home hasn't, despite numerous attempts to build over the last 20 years. We have far outgrown our Islamic Center and it is far past due for an upgrade! We need your help to construct an ICCM Community Center that will serve the increasing spiritual, educational, social, health, and outreach needs of our Muslim Community. ​I've been waiting 17 years!

We've been talking about expanding our mosque since I was in the 2nd grade, 17 years ago. It's about time we put these plans into action so that inshaallah the kids in our community can enjoy the building 8-year-old me dreamed of.

​So what's the big plan?

The new community center will be built on the grounds of the Islamic Center of Central Missouri in Downtown Columbia, next to the main Islamic Center and the Islamic School building. Phase 1 will involve building: 

• a high school size gym (bigger than I could have imagined in the 2nd grade!), 
• a kitchen, 
• 5 classrooms, 
• storage space, 
• and bathrooms. 

The estimated costs for this are $800,000, so we're starting with an initial goal of $200,000 and will then raise the goal as we reach each milestone. Looking forward to the future, the plan is to have a second phase, building more rooms in addition to the 5 classrooms to be built in phase 1.

Over the last few years I have had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer with the ICCM Women's Committee and the Rabbaniyah Youth Program. We have organized everything from small weekly programming to iftars in Ramadan to the Eid Carnival. Space always seems to be an issue, especially as our community continues to grow. Imagine what it would be like if we could host the women's Eid party right at the masjid? Or what it might be like to attend a community iftar that wasn't cramped? If you support this campaign, these don't have to be restricted to our wildest dreams!
