Turning Tragedy Into a Legacy of Service 

On February 10, 2015, the world lost three extraordinary humanitarians in the tragic Chapel Hill Murders - the hate crime that claimed the lives of Deah Barakat, his wife of only six weeks Yusor Abu-Salha, and her baby sister Razan who was visiting the newlyweds for dinner that evening.

America woke up to the horrifying news that these vibrant and talented Muslim American honor roll students were murdered over what was dubbed a "parking dispute" by the media. An overwhelming display of support poured in from all around the world under the hashtag "Our Three Winners.” Thousands of social media posts later, the public narrative changed from a “parking dispute" to the painful discussion about the triple-homicide Islamophobic hate crime that claimed the lives of Our Three Winners.

Global Support

Donations flooded the Project Refugee Smiles crowdfunding page in support of the campaign created by Deah prior to the murders.  The fundraising goal was surpassed 30 times over.  After funding the initial Project Refugee Smiles dental relief mission, the remaining donations were placed in an endowment fund within the Our Three Winners Foundation, a nonprofit established by the Barakat and Abu-Salha families dedicated to continuing the humanitarian legacies of Deah, Yusor, and Razan.

The returns on the investment are distributed as annual grants and scholarships in support of humanitarian relief and education.
