For nearly a decade, our toll-free and anonymous helpline has been a lifeline for individuals in distress and those struggling with mental health issues.

This year, we're expanding to chat and text support to reach an even greater number of people who may otherwise not have access to live-saving support.

With individuals’ increasing comfort with technology, and demand to access services when and how they choose, many services including clinical ones are moving online. Individuals now expect instant answers offered by the internet, emailing, texting, and instant messaging, paving the way for new forms of service delivery such as chat and text.

Naseeha has always been at the forefront of intuitive program development, raising the bar for industry best practices and a user friendly experience when accessing our toll-free and anonymous helpline.

In addition to our helpline, chat and text functionality will help our team serve a population that is being weighed down. By providing culturally and faith sensitive support, Naseeha is in a unique position for critical intervention.

There are many ways to save a life this Ramadan, perhaps the most pressing though is the invisible threat to our loved ones - the silent stigma that prevents us from seeking out help when we feel ourselves falling into despair. ​

What we know:

• Suicide accounts for 24% of deaths among youth between ages 15 and 24.
• By age 40, 1 in 2 people will have had a mental illness.
• Mental illness does not discriminate. However, racialized communities and visible minorities are less likely to have access to appropriate mental health support and resources.
  
  

Why chat and text support works:

• Writing therapy is a long-proven successful medium for self-help.
  
• When counselling is delivered online, it allows an individual to get to the root of the issue faster, and they tend to feel more comfortable sharing personal information and self-analyzing compared to face-to-face or telephone interaction.
• People who use written communication to discuss their issues have time to think things through and have an extra layer of privacy since it's less likely they will be heard or seen accessing support.

• High quality care tailored to the needs of our community that our service users have come to expect when accessing support.
• Training for counsellors. Our counsellors will be trained in writing; netiquette; gender and cultural issues; interpreting tone, mindset and mental constructs; and delivering clinically appropriate messages.
• Best-in-class clinical practices and protocols for managing and engaging with high-risk chat service users.
• A secure platform to ensure the highest standards of confidentiality and privacy.

Naseeha is a registered Canadian charity, and a tax receipt will be issued for all donations of $25 or more. We also accept US donations and our US charitable 501c3 status is in review.
