Disaster in Puerto Rico - Hurricane Emergency

• On Sept. 5, Hurricane Irma reached Category 5 strength and brought catastrophe to
• Barbuda, parts of the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
• Irma destroyed hundreds of homes in Puerto Rico, knocked out power to 70 percent of the island’s households and left a third of them without water.
• The storm and its aftermath killed at least 38 in the Caribbean.
• The damage estimate from Hurricane Irma is up to $100 billion.

IRUSA has declared an emergency. IRUSA is working with partners on the ground and preparing to deliver humanitarian aid to disaster-stricken areas. In addition to disaster assessments, the team will assist with aid distributions and serve as a point of contact for local rescue teams and community members in Mexico and Puerto Rico.
