Mahabba is a new online tool to help Muslim couples manage their wedding invitations, with the option of allowing guests to bless their union by donating to a charity of their choice instead of, or as well as, giving wedding gifts.
"I'm coming to the Mehndi, the Spa day and the Reception, but not the Registry Office, and I'm bringing my sister's six kids, who are allergic to everything except lightly steamed kale. Oh, and I couldn't find anything I liked on the wedding list so I'm getting you a solid silver doorstop shaped like the Taj Mahal..."
Sound familiar? Organising your own wedding can be stressful, time-consuming and complicated – especially if you're both flat out at work. Many people use social media chat apps to keep on top of RSVPs, but quickly get overloaded with information.
Don't wear your thumb out scrolling up to find guests' details! London-based design firm Inspiral Design has come up with Mahabba, an intuitive, flexible and mobile-friendly wedding planner so that you can set up your page on a computer and easily check on progress on your mobile.
You'll be able to customise your own wedding website and e-invites as well as create printed stationery, choosing from our existing Islamic art templates or bespoke designs; you can even commission Arabic calligraphy from our in-house artists.
Mahabba helps you effortlessly organise multiple events with different guest lists, including special dietary requirements and plus-ones, giving the bride and groom time to focus on the most important aspect of their wedding: mahabba (mutual love).
Most importantly, Mahabba offers a unique option to bring baraka (blessings) to your nuptials by connecting the wedding list directly to the charity of your choice, thus raising money for good causes to honour the spiritual nature of your marriage.
Mahabba will even help you print beautiful thank-you notes to everyone who donated as part of your wedding, featuring the final amount they helped to raise and the benefits their donations will have for people in need. Surely that's more rewarding than a set of boutique egg cups!
With over twenty years of expertise in fusing traditional Islamic art and craftsmanship with cutting-edge web and print solutions, and an international team of creatives and developers, Inspiral Design has created web and print solutions for global clients such as the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar, Oxford University Press and the Arabic typography portal Nuqta.com.
Now Inspiral Design wants to share Mahabba with the world – but we need your help. We're crowdfunding this Ramadan to raise enough funds to finish building the app and get it out into the world; insha'Allah, Mahabba Wedding will officially be launched on 8 August 2018.
Ramadan is a great time to support projects like this: not only will you be helping Muslim couples to fulfil half of their deen (religion) without the stress of handling their wedding invitations, you'll also be enabling so much charity to be raised in the future – a sadaqa jariya, or continuous charity.

Inspiral Design Ltd is a graphic and web design agency based in London, specialising in multilingual design and production of marketing and communications material for a global clientele, and bridging the traditional world of Islamic art and classic typography with state-of-the-art web technology.
Mukhtar is Creative Director of Inspiral Design, which he co-founded in 2002. An award-winning designer, Mukhtar brings over 24 years' experience as a print and web designer along with deep knowledge and broad experience of the Muslim world.
In 2014, Inspiral Design created a bespoke wedding website for a Muslim couple who needed to manage a complex wedding with a number of events. Instead of requesting gifts, they raised money for charity. Realising a platform like this could benefit others, Mukhtar co-founded Mahabba Wedding with Azizur Rahman.
Azizur recently joined the team as CTO. Azizur graduated from the University of Westminster in the field of Artificial Intelligence. He works for a world-class broadcasting company in the UK, developing innovative web applications used by millions of people daily across the globe. Azizur brings with him over 20 years' experience in end-to-end software development. He has experience of architecting distributed systems using Cloud technologies and delivering using the Continuous Delivery approach.
Sohaib is a project management professional with a background in digital design. Experienced in a diverse range of projects, from large-scale book publishing to multilingual website design and deployment, he is well versed in cutting-edge project management tools used to coordinate large teams working in-house and remotely. He is also a skilled multimedia designer, able to create concepts, visuals and motion graphics for a wide range of industries. He holds Adobe Expert certification.
Senior Web Developer at Mahabba, Abbas is a multidisciplinary developer with over 7 years' experience in the field. Using his specialist knowledge in multilingual web development, and having designed and developed websites for many newspapers and media companies in the Middle East, he specialises in creating visually stunning multilingual websites. Now based in London, Abbas graduated with a BA in Graphic Design from Bahrain's Polytechnic University (2011), and completed a US-certified CIW Web Professional course in Bahrain (2012).
Lucy is originally from Germany and started studying at the Brunel University London in 2015. She will finish her BSc in Digital Design in 2018 and is currently a junior assistant designer at Inspiral Design. She has worked on multiple company projects and is also responsible for the firm's social media.
A freelance writer, researcher and translator, Medina provides the writing element of the Mahabba campaign. Her past projects include writing a travel guide to Muslim Spain, a collection of poetry and numerous articles and stories for magazines and journals worldwide.
