Help rebuild the mosque after it was destroyed in a fire.

Rebuilding the Brooklyn Broadway Islamic Center

On early Saturday morning the Brooklyn Broadway Islamic Center was destroyed in a fire officials said.The blaze broke out just before 6 a.m. inside the mosque on the second floor of a Gates Avenue building in Bedford-Stuyvesant.“We saw a very rapid eruption,” said building owner Gulzar Hossain. “The whole mosque is damaged. They had to cut off the roof.”It took more than 90 minutes to get the two-alarm fire under control. No one was injured.

Despite the reason, the mosque will still need to rebuild. Just in time for Ramadan, they will need a new place to pray. Let's show our support and help them rebuild their community.

Need Your Help - 700 Children Separated from Parents are in NY and Need Our Support Today

I am sure all of you are as heart-broken as I am with the devastating news coming out these past weeks of children being taken from their families as they sought asylum at our borders.  With more than 700 of those children - including children as young as 9-months old - being transferred to group homes across New York state following the Trump Administrations "zero-tolerance" policy on border crossings many of you have asked what we can do to help. 

The Islamic Center at NYU is hoping to raise what we can to provide assistance to these children to get them the care and services they are in need of with the ultimate goal of reuniting them with their families.  All funds contributed are tax-deductible and will be distributed by the New York Immigration Coalition to organizations in their networks providing legal services, case workers, social workers, coordination, advocacy and organizing costs, and more in an efforts to represent the children currently in New York.

This cruel policy has ripped more than 2,300 children from their parents’ arms. News stories detail the horrific abuse suffered by these children - all while Customs officers crack jokes and shift blame by claiming they are merely “following orders.”

Last week, in response to public outcry, Trump signed an executive order mandating that children now be detained with their parents in ICE facilities indefinitely unless their cases are resolved. This solves nothing: “zero tolerance” is still in play, and children and families will still be imprisoned. It is also clear that the administration do not plan to reunite those families already separated, especially in light of reports that parents are being deported while their children remain here in the United States.
