Educating villages on the beauty of Islam.

The people want Islam and we need your help to bring it to them!

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

With your help, we want to provide thousands of people the opportunity to experience the beauty of Islam, accept it, and provide them with the education needed to continue upon this beautiful way of life. Guinea-Bissau is one of the world’s poorest and most unstable nations. In that country, almost 2,000 people from one of the most remote and untouched villages in Guinea-Bissau have already accepted Islam. The numbers keep growing, and right now, we want to sponsor 3,000 villagers and their education, and livelihood.

Your generous donation will allow The Bissau Project to continue our hard work well into the future by creating long-term means of sustenance for the various tribes, Islamic educational resources, and teachers for the different villages.

WHO ARE WE?

The Bissau Project is a campaign under The Oasis Initiative, and we aim to do one thing, educate and support through service and love.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

It all started because of one man; his name is Mawlana.

He belongs to one of the major tribes of the country, the Balante. Upon accepting Islam, he has made it his life goal of calling his tribe’s people to the religion of Truth. When we met him, he explained to us that while villages were entering Islam en-masse, they were also exiting Islam because there were no teachers to educate the people and to cultivate the religion in a meaningful way.

For this reason, we took steps to begin supporting Mawlana. We organized a group of initial teachers, and after our first trip, over 500 people became Muslim. That was two years ago, and since then, thousands more have accepted the religion. Now it’s no longer just the Balante, but tribes all across Guinea-Bissau have begun seeing the beauty of Islam. However, now we need help.

“People have come and gone, and they always take what they want.”

We are here to support them.

One of the village elders explained to us very early on during our initial trips that he and his entire family have worshipped idols. He has had idols that have been passed down to him for generations, and he planned on passing them down to his children as well. Every year before the cashew harvest they would go to the local soothsayer and ask for good fortune. They would be obliged to sacrifice some of his cattle, he would. Year after year, he and his father would do this. Now he has taken over, has become an elder, and does it with his own son. However, that night after accepting the path and faith of Islam, and after hearing the story of Ibrahim (as) destroying the Idols, he raised his hand in a dark room where we designated the village’s masjid. He said, “After all of this, I have never found any benefit from these idols. I have accepted Islam because I see the truth in it, the beauty in it, but you cannot leave us. You cannot leave us here and not teach us everything that we are supposed to learn. You cannot leave without teaching my son.”

So now we come to you.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

The Bissau Project is built upon the understanding that the people we serve are our brothers and sisters in humanity, and we have been blessed with the opportunity to serve them. By donating you allow us to continue the great work and increase the benefit we can share in various villages.

Thank you!

Assalamu Alaykum,

Thank you! The Bissau Project team wants to thank you for your contributions, and for sharing this project throughout this blessed month of Ramadan. By the will of God, you've made it possible to bring much needed financial assistance to the new Muslims of Guinea-Bissau. When we started this campaign, we did not think we'd have come this far, but here we are.

As the month of mercy and blessings comes to an end, we'd like to encourage you all to dig slightly deeper and help us to reach the 200K mark. Whether we reach it or not is in the hands of God, and we are truly appreciative of all that you have done. Again, thank you and may God accept this month of Ramadan from all of you. Please keep the Balante and the many other tribes of Guinea-Bissau in your prayers.

May God continue to bless you, protect you, and increase you in sustenance. May your contributions be a means of your acceptance into the Garden, and may the Balante and the various tribes be a proof for you on the day when you meet your Lord, Ameen.

Zakat Goal Reached!

Assalamu Alaykum,

We've reached our Zakat-Goal! We know you'll appreciate that the Bissau Project follows strict regulations based on Islamic Jurisprudence on how to collect and disperse Zakat. As such, we have a limit of how much Zakat we are able to take. We'd appreciate if you could still continue donating towards this blessed project as we aim to reach 200K in donations by the end of Ramadan!
