Your donations will help us in many ways inshAllah

Upkeep of our Programmes. Your donation will enable us to continue our programmes and to support our teachers, students, and seekers of knowledge at a time of great difficulty. Help fund the day to day expenses, buy books and supplies and pay for the rent of our building.

Serving our Community. Invest in our community of believers by offering them a space to call their own where they can gather to gain sacred knowledge in accordance with the Prophetic Guidance.

Students of Knowledge. You will be investing in our future leaders in this remote part of the world who are studying the Quran and the Prophetic way and creating new pathways for future generations of sacred knowledge seekers.

Who are we?

Dar al Quran is a non-profit organization that teaches Islamic classes to Muslims in Aotearoa-New Zealand. Our aim is to spread Prophetic light and knowledge to empower our community through our hifdhs programmes, foundational classes, and regular community programmes. Our programmes are designed for the whole family, with the purpose of supporting a spiritually healthy Muslim community. Our desire is to provide a space for learning that uplifts the soul and empowers the community to live the Sunnah and practically in New Zealand.

Our Programmes

Thanks to our generous donors, we have been able to facilitate the following programmes:

  • Full time Hifdhs programme - holistic programme that not only teaches Quran memorisation but also a strong focus on naseehah, nationwide excursions, and reflections on our role as leaders in New Zealand.
  • Foundations programme - Instill the love of Allah and Quran in our next generation of believers. Build a community rooted in sincere brotherhood and sisterhood, and families that support each other
  • Ladies programmes - Providing a space of learning, connection, and community for the women in our community
  • Weekly family & community gathering - A place of learning and community bonding.
  • Dar al Quran also runs one off programmes and hosts international scholar tours throughout the year and details are posted on social media.

Why We Do It?

1. To Build Community. As well as providing a space and environment for a diverse group of Muslims to come together and build their faith, we want to ensure they feel rooted in their identity as Muslims in New Zealand, while feeling at home.

2. To Spread Prophetic Light & Sacred Knowledge. We provide access to high caliber Islamic teaching and scholarship in the English language appropriate for the New Zealand context. Creating learning pathways for Muslims in New Zealand of different ages and backgrounds to learn the foundations of their deen. Ensure learning pathways for those aspiring to achieve Islamic scholarship.

3. For The Spiritual Well-being Of Our Community. To inspire a sense of spiritual belonging for our students and members of our community while fostering an environment where whānau can be supported in their spiritual well being and growth. Connect local Muslims to the global Muslim community.

Our Community

The people we serve - New Zealand is one of the most remote places in the world. In this far-flung corner of the world, the Muslim community is growing at a rapid pace, and consists of migrants, refugees, converts, and second and third generation families. However, there are few places where a diverse group of Muslims can gather, build their faith while feeling rooted in their identity as Muslim New Zealanders. Our hub provides the environment to foster such a space.

Help us Find a Permanent Home

Last year was a tough year for Dar al Quran as we had to vacate the premises we have called home for the past 8 years. Our lease had come to an end and while this was tough, seeing our community pull together, our volunteers working tirelessly to get our new home in order and the spirit of our madrassa kids who helped every step of the way has made us excited for what the future holds InshaAllah. Our current venue is not permanent and your support could help us find a new home and new beginnings for our community in this Muslim-minority country InshaAllah.

Full Time Hifdhs Programme

Brothers' Full Time Hifdhs

Our unique programme aims to give young men a strong grounding in Islam. The programme has a rigorous academic focus while also giving equal attention to personal development. The programme is designed for young men transitioning from high school to university, or who are homeschooling.

In addition to the core curriculum there is a strong mentoring element aimed at helping the young person to contextualise their learnings and implement them in the real world. Students are encouraged to ask questions.

Dar al Quran Boys' Camp

A Great Experience

While the bulk of our time is spent on memorising the Holy Quran, we also invest plenty of time transitioning boys into sacred manhood by implementing the Prophetic way into our everyday lives.

Sacred Manhood. Derived from Imam Dawud Walid’s book, Futuwwah, we focus on the Islamic tradition of organised training relating to spiritual chivalry and sacred manhood. During the course, we take learning opportunities outside of the classroom, such as trips to the cemetery, weekend camps, and hikes.

Rihla. The purpose was to nurture self responsibility, build connections with the wider Muslim community, and to develop personal growth in spirituality and dawah programmes. They also met Muslims from outside of Auckland, and developed project management skills from volunteers and leaders involved at the event.

Dowra. The Dowra camping trip fostered brotherhood among our boys. The purpose is to make space for them to strengthen their connections with teachers and classmates, and learn their history and place in New Zealand society.

Dar al Quran boys helping to pack Fitrana Boxes for the New Zealand Zakat Foundation

Zakat Al Fitr

Last year, the Dar al Quran boys hifdh class students packed 60 zakat al fitr food boxes for the New Zealand Zakat Foundation (another project of Lote Tree Trust). We were joined on packing day by Ibrahim Omer, Labour MP, who helped the boys pack the boxes in the vans, and former Puketāpapa Local Board Chair Julie Fairey to hear about how we are assisting families in the Albert Eden area.

The boxes were distributed by community workers across the city. This important work wouldn’t have been possible without the team at Umma Trust, who guided us on what to pack and who to give them to. We also want to thank The New Zealand Food Network for donating some ingredients and the boxes.

Brotherhood bonds

Brotherhood

Creating long-lasting bonds

“Walking into the Dar al Quran gatherings has been a profound experience. From when you enter the door you are greeted with the warmest of welcomes and the bond of brotherhood is felt straight away. It is a place where authentic conversations are held, personal stories are shared and we are always encouraged to reflect and to grow our character. I always leave feeling spiritually rejuvenated and inspired by the male leaders in our community." - Dar al Quran Attendee, 2022
