Ramadan is the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic calendar. During the entire month of Ramadan, Muslims are obligated to fast (Arabic: صوم‎, sawm), every day from dawn to sunset. Fasting of the body requires the abstinence from food, drink & desire, as well as from negative thoughts & opinions. To mark the end of the fast, a meal is eaten at sunset. This is called an iftar.

Since 2013, Open Iftar has been inviting people from all walks of life, different faith backgrounds and none, to come together to break fast, share food & engage in inspiring conversations. To date, over 70,000 people have experienced Open Iftar, therefore contributing to 140,000 conversations that otherwise may not have happened. Whether you are observing the fast, or want to understand more about Ramadan & fasting, everyone is welcome.

Why support Open Iftar 2020?

Running throughout every Ramadan since 2013 in London, Open Iftar has grown to invite people in cities all across Great Britain to come together over food and conversation.

This year, Open Iftar will be in London for the entire 30 blessed nights, and will be hosting guests across Great Britain.  Keep an eye on @OpenIftar social media channels for news and updates.

This is a free event and we do not charge entry to anyone so we rely on the support and donations from those who are passionate about what we do and what we are trying to achieve.

Where Will Your Money Go?

Your donations will go towards covering costs of giving the Open Iftar experience to communities in cities across Great Britain, hosting and feeding around 25,000 people.

About us

Ramadan Tent Project's vision is to become the leading institution of Ramadan in Britain, empowering individuals from all backgrounds to develop their understanding, knowledge and experience of Ramadan and fasting.

We were awarded the Pride of Britain Special Recognition Award, presented by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, as a partner of GMRU (Grenfell Muslim Response Unit) and Ramadan Tent Project was listed as one of the 50 Most Innovative Global Muslim Start-ups (2016).

Any surplus donations will be used for future projects, events and operations of Ramadan Tent Project. LaunchGood collects a standard 5% platform fee along with a 3% credit card processing fee. Supporters have the option to cover the 8% in fees upon online checkout.
